Dan, screw the housing market, I rent my 4 bed detached for the price it *should* cost to mortgage - my landlord pays the other half for the 'privelege' of owning a house Even if house prices were 5x the average salary, which is borderline unaffordable for most, they'd be 20% lower than they are now - in this currently depressed economy... joke.

To the point, my '91 3B Coupe with leather and AC had a purchase price of £31k IIRC. My favourite is the RS2, I think the original price is someone in the documents I have, but it's first owner paid ~£45k for it in 1995. Same time my step-brother bought a 3-bed semi for a bit less!

I'm with you on the wood vs common carbon - My S2 was registered to the dealer for a few weeks, then it's first owner paid £31,390

Retail price in 1992 for my car in Denmark was close to 850.000 dkr. If we use todays exchange 1£ = 8,5 dkr. Then it was a 100.000£

You just gotta love the Danish car registration system

Wow, really expensive cars! The parts cost enough so you can tell it's a car designed for wealthy/silly people Always loved the wood trim myself, punched leather is my fave trim but I've only seen it the once and that was in AndyP's s2 in Sheffield.

Bit off topic but does anyone know the price of a new urs4 from 1994. A/C, elec windows, tow bar + pre-select sunroof?

Don't know about 94 but a May 93 Fast Lane S4 estate article gives some pricing:

                  VAT 5077 GBP
                  Total base price 34095 GBP
                  Price as tested 36124 GBP

There is also this 97 UrS6 options list:

                  RS2'd 93 UrS4 5 spd sedan
                  94 UrS4 V8 6 spd manual avant

My '91 3B cost a little over £36k when new. That could' have bought about 180oz of gold, which would now be worth in excess of £160k.

I think it shows how relatively cheap modern cars are. But then, you can tell they are cheaper, by the way they are made.
                    I mean, what's a new S5 these days? £40k?

It's okay, they now have a tome of optional extras to make sure nobody walks away with one at that price
