  • BIG problem, cant get in the car

Last week I went on holiday, I left my car on the parking place at my parents. After a few days the alarm went off, my parents could not turn it off. So they called the road service. Also they couldnt turn if off. It was not possible to get into the car. The key isnt functioning. I only have the car for 2 weeks I always openend it with the remote control, maybe the previous owner changed the locks or it has something to do with the alarm. The alarm went off when the battery was empty. The neighbourhood wasnt really happy

Now my car is standing on the parking place and I cant get in, what is the best/cheapest way to get in the car. Breaking one of the back windows, front windows?

You can lift the bonnet by tugging the pull wire which activates the two bonnet catches. Charge the battery, then try the alarm, if it doesn't work then replace the alarm fob battery, try again.

You may have to look at another audi to see where the wire is for the bonnet catches.

If you smash a window, what do you do then?

If in doubt call the aa or the RAC ( if you are a member)

The key should physically unlock the doors unless there is some form of dead lock. Mine doesn't have one.

You may need a new car battery when it's all sorted.

      Thanks for the reaction.

The battery of my car is under the backseat of the car. Thats why i thought about smashing the window. The RAC already tried to open the car but they couldnt open it.At the moment the battery is completly dead.
I can get the key in the lock but cant twist it. I thought about smashing the side backwindow (coupe) but I dont know how much this window will cost me to replace. another option is maybe to crack the lock, I dont know how thieves normally open a car. The RAC tried it with a small strip between the window and the door, but this wasnt succesfull.

Breaking the glass is a last resort. The front windows are cheaper than the rears (£100 vs. £130) and probably easier to replace.

Can't discuss breaking into the locks in public (there could be undesirables lurking) but that is probably easiest and cheapest way. Once your in retumble at least one lock so the keys work. Mine had different keys for the doors, tailgate and igntion when I got it. New ignition barrel and retumbled locks were one of the first things I did.

DON'T SMASH YOUR WINDOW!! there's got to be an alternative solution. have you tried your key in all lock cylinders, including rear latch and passenger door? i think it's unlikely that the previous owner would change the lock cylinder and not keep the keys for the doors...could you contact the previous owner?

          good luck!!!

It could be the locks are full of crap that has got in over the years. Try spraying them with wd40 or some kind of spray cleaner. That may loosen one off enough to turn it.

              Thanks for the reactions.

First I will try it with wd-40. At the moment I am looking for some kind of locking service, I know that in Holland we have several companies that are specialised in opening locks. Maybe they can try to open the locks.

The strange this is that I can get the key in the drivers door, but I doesnt seem to fit in the rear latch and the passenger door. It justs goes halfway in.

Sounds like the locks are full of dirt then. Even if the key didn't fit the lock it would still go all the way in.

Inside the barrel is a series of plates that move when the key is pushed in. If they get dirt around them they stick in place so you can't the key in.

The drivers door is probably the easiest to free as it's the one that is used most often. The passenger door and tailgate very rarely have a key in them.

I just put somekind of wd40 in the lock tried to turn the lock, at the moment it isnt working. I will try it tomorrow again. It could be durt, I think most people only use the remote controle and never use the key to open the doors. Also the previous owner told me that he always used the remote controle, never the key.

I suggested to try the other doors because i can hardly get my key into driver door or trunk luck, however passenger door always works smooth. i always use keyless too...but its worth a shot!

I tried all locks, I only get the key complete in the lock of the passenger door. In the other locks it just get half way in. I put in all the locks wd40, tomorrow I will try to open the lock. If it isnt opening I will call a locking service which hopefully can unlock my car.

If it is a coupe - you could remove the rear reg plate and cut a hole through the boot so you can get a hand in to unlock the boot. Easy to weld a plate over the hole, shouldn't cost anything any damage will be hidden after fixing!!

Smashing a window isn't afterall that bad option. Usually windscreens are in not very good shape in 10 year old car and it's definately the cheapest! Not the side windows!!

You can connect a battery charger or jump lead to the fat wire at the alternator, dont even have to open the bonnet..
