after building an I5 B5 over 3+ years of constant development........
engine overhang!
this is when i first fitted it in Quattro format and what i had to do to the body to make the bonnet close...............
and now how the engine sits chassis mounted and RWD form only!
and for the power delivery compared to the V6/8 that are fitted as standard its not worth the stress to develop a longer chassis to house a lower output, worse handling car than the readily available powerplants and drivetrain.
it will be as much hastle/easyer to fit the RS6 twin turbo V10 into the same chassis........... so why fit the 5 pot? not worth the development for what is available sadly
does this make sense? i dont want my comments to sound patronising, because thats not who i am or what i am like. i like to put feelings into words, and words into cars x x x
oh and the sump only sits 5mm from the Anti-Roll bar
a 5 pot is no good in a B5!
only reason i fitted the one in my car is the noise!!!!
other than that it is utterly pointless........ 100%.................!!!

The new type 5cyl as used in the ttrs is way shorter than the old 5cyl
So if we're agree the ABY is no good in a B5, presumably someone will try to put a new TTRS 5 cylinder engine lengthways in a B4, for less overhang and more capacity, with newer technology, but still with the sound of an I5.
Or is there something inherently wrong with this idea making it too awkward and therefore a non starter ?

Yup, you can buy the mounts, manifolds, sump etc from iroz motorsport.

TT-RS engine is ridiculously expensive and it is DI so not that tunable.
Much better take the NA engine from VW Rabbit, it is reasonably priced and port injected.
And then you still need:
* Pistons
* Rods
* Manifolds
* Custom oil sump
* Engine mounts
At the very minimum...
If using the ME7.1.1 ECU found on the VW I5 engine you will need the throttle body, senders and Bosch e-gas pedal.
Alternatively standalone... then you need a throttle body too. Not sure how the gearbox will bolt to it either.
The advantages are shorter engine, head that is 20 years ahead in breathing and design from the old engine (will do over 8k rpm stock), completely differently designed oil pump that does not have high rpm issues, and increased displacement right off the bat...
If using stock ECU then ME7 is much sexier too If using standalone you already have factory 60-2 trigger.
