It's afternoon - even worse!
Been one of those days.
I actually have them scanned & all, but I've been distracted with both work & play!
After having a guy call to put my 'spare parts dept' back together for rolling onto a trailer next Friday & away to another life - right now I'm 12 miles from home meeting a courier with parts for the A6 that've been floating around in the back of his van for the last two days!
I'll get you that stuff well before your bedtime Dave!?!
God bless the mobile internet access!sigpic

16V Head vs 7A, 3B, AAN, ABY and ADU
Still chasing the info I need for the 20VT engine history up-date. I have been in contact with Greg Raven (author of the Water Cooled VW engine performance handbooks) and got some Oettinger info but not exactly what I was looking for. So that search continues. Now looking for the Oct. 1985 issue of VW & Porsche magazine.
On an side note, yesterday I asked Kate about the part numbers on the original 1.8L 16V VW valve train against the later 1993 16V 2.0L Audi ACE engine (not available in North America), the 7A inline 5 used in the Audi coupe quattros, the 3B used in the Audi 200 20VT (and the early European Audi S2 coupes) and the 20VT AAN in my 93 S4 and they are all the same, with a couple of minor changes (a washer under the bottom spring seat). On that basis, my premise that the 1.8L 16V was the grandfather of the AAN 20VT engine, at least head-wise, fits.
Here are some cross-sections of the 1.8L 16V from a 1986 Scirroco 16V GTX brochure compared to a 3B head cross-section. Both have the face of the exhaust valves parallel to the top of the piston and the intake valve canted about 25 degrees away from the exhaust valve centerline. The obvious engine difference is the way in which the oil pumps are driven. The VW engines used a "jack" shaft whereas the 3B and AAN (etc) have the oil pump driven off the nose of the crank.
