Should be stamped on the head, turbo side opposite MAF sensor, use a torch or you won't see it!

          thanks, no luck though

I can't see anything down there and most of it seems to be covered by heat shields

actually, scratch that, further up the front of the engine there are some numbers

just going to clean some crud off them and get a better look

                ( I don't have that build sticker either )

does this mean it's the 7th build of that motor? or something else which isn't so relevant?

Yep that means that you must have number 7 of the first ADU engines before this list bellow.

                  Is your gearbox a CGR??

I'm not sure what the original box is (it's actually just in a crate about 20 meters from me so I can take a look)

It was taken out to look at a first gear syncro issue but it turned out to be much more and I was better off getting another one and using this as parts if need be..

I sourced the current box from the UK which is a 95 RS2 box through Stevequatrro (he's awesome!) and it's stamped CRB 64215

let me know if you want any other info \ pics etc.

                    happy to help

My car was stolen many years ago and VIN number was destroyed at all.
But I've got original engine with number, original gearbox.
I think that my car born in 1995 nut thats not confirmed.
I don't even know the date of first registration.

So, I'm ready to send all these data. If anyone can restore VIN number of my car (for example by the engine number)?

Looks like someone has been tampering with those numbers, one of the zero's looks a bit odd, like its hiding a 7 underneath it?

yeah, it was quite hard to read that digit

I'm not sure if they didn't stamp it properly the first time and then had another go with the zero or if someone had miss-stamped the 7 and 'undid it'

or if it's a genuine mistake or something more sinister

even the bulk head stamp is all over the show

Could be possible that it's not the original head and it has been re-stamped with the original number, who knows.

It looks like the orginal gearbox is a CGR which also was used in the latest S2 ABY Avant / sedan and coupe models, I also have an CGR gearbox in mine, and then you put a CBR gearbox in it with a stronger first gear
                                Kind regards
