  • need help wiring up a Well water pump

our well water pump packed in, so we went out and bought a new one. its a newer version to our old one but we aren't sure how to wire it up

My dad passed away in 2016 and he was the man who knew everything.. and wired the last one up. But without him we are a bit stuck.

Here is the diagram on the underside of the wiring cover:

Would appreciate any help anyone can offer.

The old one is just wired up to a UK plug, and turned on and off from there.. the wiring looks diffeent on this new one though.

There is a large capacitor attached between W2 and U2

Any ideas where positive and negative should go from the mains? I'm guessing where the 'TP' is written on the left?

    cheers.

Looks like it may be a 3 phase pump. What wattage is it rated for?

This is how you connect an 3 phase motor with 1 phase thats why the capacitor is there. Should be an type plate on the motor ? Cant you see how the old one is connected?

It briefly tries to move in the correct direction, but just hums. I'm thinking the capacitor isn't giving it the kick it needs to get the motor moving from stand still?

The motors on them are not the same, and they are wired differently.

The old pump is a Brook Crompton motor and a mono pump unit
The new pump is a : mono pump CMS241/H13F

That looks right to me. Sounds like your old motor just needs a start capacitor. Replace it with one of the same value and try it out.
