I have an Air and soon a Pro, but they are not exactly budget options.
OP was looking at something in the 300 GBP range. Most good Macs start at four times that price. (written on a MBA, previous gen though, not the current one )

Yeah your right, i was more thinking of what other people where using as no one mentioned them.

They can be had reasonably cheap secondhand on ebay and gumtree though.
Both my early 08 MBAs where only £300 and my 2010 17" MBP was only £1000. The guy I bough it off paid £3150 for it 9 months earlier

I don't like buying second hand laptops, because you never know what has been spilled into them...
It's possible the PCB is full of some sort of acidic beverage and at some point will just eat through the metal and stop working... so not worth the risk for me.

I've got a £280 Lenovo, had it for nearly 4 yrs and its been rock solid including being lugged round the world and dropped a few times, getting wet and falling off the top of my mates car at about 10mph when he drove off not realising it was there. Only problem I had was running out of hard drive space because of the lenovo backup software storing multiple copies of the C drive, got rid of that..
