id say not a lot. bit like saying whats a sierra gls compared to a cossie.

i think that hardly any sell at big numbers. maybe 1 car is bought due to maybe sentamental reasons for example the original owner wants it back and the current owner dont wanna sell. that dont make it worth the figure its the dont wanna sell it price.

i feel the parts on an s2, not just the engine make it far more valuable to the peeps in the know than the cq. almost everything in the drivetrain is different as are the majority of engine bits, clocks etc. only thing thats the same is the seats.

id say cq 4k and s2 6-8k. tops would be my pricing.

I'm not sure it is only the seats really

Compared to a 3B engined S2, they are quite similar, aside from the obvious engine and suspension/drivetrain upgrades.

Even 4K seems a world away, they were going for £1000 with mot on ebay only a year ago.

I love the velour seats in my CQ......in comparison standard S2 seats (in my opinion) are not as comfy?

I'm happy to own the predecessor to the S2

I reckon £8,000 to £12,000 is more realistic now which is great because I feel our cars have always been undervalued anyway so they are now what they should be

The only reason super car values have shot up in price is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greater_fool_theory

So what's an S2 worth? What some other fool will pay for it

Am pleased this topic has come up with what we think the value of our cars are worth as am having a mare my renewal came through and it came through as same value as last year which was £12500 and I pointed out the various models for sale at the min and pointed £14000 would be more realistic and then 2 Coupes came up for sale on Autotrader at £16990 and £17500 both J reg 1991 models so I went back and said perhaps £18000 is more realistic after the work I got done on it 3 years ago the fact it has S8 alloys miltek exhaust and custom downpipe and koni shocks and paint work looked at last year and they came back with £12000 which is now lower and to be honest a crap value. I know members have seen my car and I would class it as a very good example but how and where could you buy today a very good 1995 S2 Black Coupe for £12000??? Can I ask what would you say this car is worth so I can raise a few more questions - thanks guys S2 Coupe.jpgS2coupe.jpg

Ive seen this car in the flesh a few times. Looks great, well cared for and excellent provenance.
In my opinion you would struggle to replace it quickly with £20,000+ as this calibre of car is rare to the market. That said, when one eventually does turn up the current market would probably see it around £15,000-£20,000.
When you're at this level of car the issue is the opportunity to replace as much as the price. With £20,000 in the bank poised ready and a couple of years to wait then i think it's possible. £15,000 and 2-3 months then i think it'd be very difficult or you'd need a lot of luck.

I don't know about U.K., but here in South Africa insurance companies do not value older cars anywhere near what they will sell for although they should ... Nor do they consider that you might have spent lots on repairs and maintenance ... Also because older cars are difficult or nearly impossible to finance , makes them harder to sell even though they are better value than newer cars .... So the only real market at its fair value is the collector or enthusiast with lots of cash and they are hard to come buy... As even they realize it's a buyers market and will try to squeeze you...

I too have seen Anthony's car and it's very very nice, he keeps it well that's for sure.
Regarding insurance, I suppose if an insurance co. were going to pay out £xxxxx, the argument would be ok but another £xxxx is required to spend on the replacement car to bring it up to the required standard??
Finding an equal replacement would be a difficult thing for many of us?

Cheers Guys it's so difficult to put a value on our cars and when my insurance company are coming back at £12000 I know if the worst was to happen I would NOT get a black 1995 S2 Coupe with that money plain and simple even in current UK market prices, they are selling slowly but it's a specialists market there a superb grey S2 Coupe where someone has just put a deposit on
