Oil drilling and fracking in Surrey

This is our back yard, where we walk and ride bikes and where our water comes from.

Please sign and share to help protect our beautiful countryside
    Thanks
    John

I just signed the petition "Don't risk water pollution from oil drilling on Leith Hill" and wanted to ask if you could add your name too.

This campaign means a lot to me and the more support we can get behind it, the better chance we have of succeeding. You can read more and sign the petition here:

How to run an online petition There are thousands of petitions running on 38 Degrees right now. Over the years we've learnt a lot about how to word your petition, how to grow your petition and how...

    Thank you!

    John

P.S. Can you also take a moment to share the petition with others? It's really easy – all you need to do is forward this email or share this link on Facebook or Twitter: https://you.38degrees.org.uk/petitio...oil-drilling-1

That's green belt? Should be left alone. Not much green space left around those parts. I will be signing the petition.

            Thanks chaps!

As well as the local Greensand aquifer (that supplies well water to local people) which they will drill through to reach depth, they also pass extremely close to a huge chalk aquifer which runs under three counties.
To risk the future of our water supply for just 4 days worth of fuel for the country is just obscene.

These type of wells have a habit of going bad. There’s one just to the south of us that’s gone wrong, the drilling company dropping 50 million overnight, the concrete well casing split filling the ground with sulphuric acid and other toxins.

Pretty political for a fossil fuel based car forum... but I guess as long as it is not in your backyard. Hopefully the company has done a good quality seismic survey to make sure that your concerns do not come to fruition, if of course they are successful with their plans.

Political, yes, but you have to understand that where they plan to do this is right next to a highly populated area. There is a time and a place for everything. I'm not apposed to fracking in principle. They are welcome to come and do it on my smallholding, here in West Wales where it would have little or no impact. The South East has very few unspoilt green spaces left. Both Canada and USA have vast unpopulated areas that are ideal for this kind of operation.
