    How are you keeping yours on the road?

    Hi!

    So I recently bought this;

    To sit with these;

    As I missed my old S2 dearly, I sold it around five years ago and regretted it the moment the car went down the road.

    So as opportunity arose to get back into an S2 recently, I just couldn't resist!

    My New S2 doesn't need much at all;

    Sunroof does not operate,
    Aircon has been disconnected at some point and now the pump seems seized,
    The brakes need a refresh due to standing for a year or so.

    I have also looked at upgrades;

    Brakes
    The standard RS2 spec power route,
    Exhaust,
    Etc.

    What I am finding is that I can no longer load up euro car parts or GSF like I could five years ago to order exactly what I want. If I take to eBay to find upgrades or even standard replacement stuff, its from sellers that are from anywhere but the UK. Finding an advert on eBay that gives me the confidence to commit and buy a couple of caliper rebuild kits - im finding hugely difficult! I get hundreds of Generic bits and bobs that say "should fit". Finding a replacement glass sunroof set is like - Ha! Don't bother. An exhaust system under £1000 - NO, suspension under £1000 if your lucky - maybe if you know a guy who knows a guy, a clutch! for when i likely need a new one once i've doubled the power output - I would need the forum, plus over £1000 and even then I would need to know a guy who knows a guy.

    So my question is likely answered by my very light hearted rant (i'm a very happy go lucky guy irl ).

    To comfortably own and run an S2 nowadays, I need to have the same amount of money I paid for the car as "running/modification money" and even then! I would need to know a guy who knows a guy!?!?!

    Ps. This is not a wanted Ad, i'm not after parts anymore. My S2 Limo dreams for my 80 saloon are also dashed, im at the point where I am too scared to drive the S2 now because if something fails... I Do Not, know a guy who knows...

    Pss. Ignore the crater of mud, i'm mid renovation

      Honestly you’ll be fine
      It’s really not that bad finding parts.

      Try rebuilding an Ur quattro

          I believe it is possible.
          Get a good waterproof cover if she is sleeping outside. I can see by the condensation that you have a leak
          Search ebay regularaly for parts you might need. Find out the part numbers from 7Zap and search under the part number. You will be surprised what you will find. Also search under Audi 80 as some don't realise their parts also fit S2's.
          Keep a look out on the forum and facebook group also for parts.
          AVOID AUTODOC
          KMS on ebay are quite good, if a little pricey. They sell genuine Vag stuff occasionally.
          Your local TPS will help with parts not found elsewhere. Otherwise Colsey does a AT group buy every now and again.
          Change the oil and filter every year and use good quality stuff. Change the cambelt and the bottom pulley for a billet one (chef here).
          When you do your strut top bushes, get some strut savers from Lago Blue here
          Stick with the original shocks and brakes for now if they work.
          Seek out bargains when you do plan to upgrade (I got Porsche calipers for £200 recently from a breakers).
          Polish her regularaly with good stuff
          AVOID AUTODOC
          Enjoy

            What? Did you not review, and agree to re-commit to, the revised terms of the user agreement, when you sought re-admission to the order?

                Thanks for the comments guys, these pictures were taken just after I took delivery. It had been standing for a year or so and hasn't steamed up since.

                Whilst this car starts, drives and does everything a normal car should, I think I am best getting out of it. This kind of car suits someone with all the gear to keep it running privately or someone who has very deep pockets for a specialist to work on it.

                To give you an idea of where I was prior to buying this, I was looking for the right 911 997, an E46 or an E92 M3. I randomly popped into the cars for sale bit and got hit "right in the feels" by this S2. I am not one for random purchases like this and have not been in the position to just fire the best part of 10k at a weekend car. I don't get the thrill I was expecting because I am worried something is going to go wrong.

                I will get the couple of paint bits orted on the car ASAP and get some fresh pictures up within an advert. Im not a tool guy anymore, I just dont have the time, I just want to jump in, open the sunroof and go...

                    Not sure why you think this be any more expensive or difficult to keep on the road than a 997 or M3, all the cars have parts difficulties, and parts costs are rising.

                    But it is all possible, once properly recommissioned it will be a reliable drive, and one you can really enjoy.

                    I find parts via Google searching when more tricky, often they end up on eBay as you can search by Audi part number quite successfully there.

                    For secondhand parts, eBay, or eBay.de for some of the rarer stuff can be good (a lot more Audi's were sold over there obviously....).

                    Plus of course, the wanted section on here has got me through on some occasions, and the advice you will get here will help you get round things that have got you stumped.

                    All very doable.

                      The problem I believe is that when I owned my last one, it was more of a modern classic and ordering parts would be as difficult as it is using the JustEat app. I didnt get the memo informing me that these had moved from modern classic to classic classic ;

                      Im not suggesting ECP is the only place on earth, but this is generally the case across the board.

                          ECP is not the place to source S2 parts from, they don't even stock head gasket sets anymore. If you're keeping the S2, ebay and the forum is the way to go for spares. Audi Tradition has some parts too, but they can be expensive.
