Whilst checking the MOT earlier I realised my coupe turns 30 in a week's time, a milestone I think...

You lucky ****** Anthony! It's great at this time of year if the weathers good, very few tourists and no Midges whatsoever, enjoy your trip mate.
It's one of those drive's it doesn't really matter what your in, it's going to awesome! Done it like a total hooligan in my S2, at a more sedate, though still quite speedy rate in my RS2 and have also taken days to complete the route in my T4 van a few times. Loved the experience every time, though I don't think my S2's tyres enjoyed themselves at all.

I've never been over there to drive, I have been to Germany a couple of times a long time ago and remember liking the country very much, I dare say that would be just as good but quite a different sort of experience. The North Scotland lap is really more about scenery, remoteness and wild surroundings, though the roads are excellent, whereas lapping the Ring would be probably be harder on the car and dedicated to speed. That said there's plenty to do over there other than drive, beer (not for me), castles, museums etc, kind of depends on your interests outside of motoring.

I do love scenery, my biggest love in life (bigger than cars!) Is mountain biking and being out in the scenery is part of that love.
I drove round the ring in 2006 in my mates RS2 spec'd Avant, that's what got me into the cars, needless to say the car had to have a number of fluids topped up. It wasn't the best example though...Comment

The scenery in far north of Scotland is awesome in the truest sense of the word, the geology is totally different to the rest of the UK, it's a very interesting part of the world if you like mountain's, lochs and very wild coastlines. Loads of mountain biking to do up there, not really looked into that as walking is more my thing but I know there's plenty of great off road routes that can enjoyed on a MB or on foot as well as dedicated tracks.
There are however downsides, unpredictable and often awful weather which can make it tricky to plan holidays in advance, the last thing you want to pay to spend a week doing is watching sideways rain out of hotel window. Though I've always been very lucky and only had to put up with a couple of days of dreadful weather on a couple of my trips. Then there's the bloody midges, don't get me started on the dam midges, I only go in early spring or late autumn due to those little sods.
And I've just thought about the absolutely insane price of fuel at the moment, kinda puts the kybosh a bit on any motoring holiday.
