  • RS3 hankering

    Anyone here own an RS3?
I have been hankering after one for a while.
I've done some research online and they seem brilliant.
I'm looking at 2017 era cars.
    Any thoughts?

Is that the same 5 cyl as the TTRS? Supposed to be epic! Might be a bit small inside though, I found the rs4 a bit cramped. If they do a 2 door that would be cool.

Yes, same engine. The RS3 is based on the A3 and is available as a saloon or hatchback. Space is limited but family have flown the nest so it's not important. No two door unfortunately. I really like the saloon shape. We must have a member who has one

            That made me chuckle...

You want the one with the 07K engine, mapped those things are wild. They're pretty crazy as stock to be honest.

                Hi Dave,

I had the 2012 RS3 Sportback and have a lot of fond memories, it was fast as Hell and sold it with 180,000 KM on the clock and never had a problem with her. I bought her Brand new and never used the Launch control once reason being imagine at 3500RPM the poor Crown and Pinion meshing at such a high RPM, the only problem is you have to replace DSG gearbox oil and HALDEX oil and filter at 60,000 KM or you will pick up problems with diff. The problem is it is not a Quattro as we know it which is permanent on S2/RS2, it is front wheel drive most of the time and pushers to the rear when you floor it or in tight corners and can become hairy at speed as it tries to break out it's backside when it kicks in. The other problem is AUDI says the filter is a sealed unit and you don't have to replace oil and filter in the diff. The engineer that came up with this theory should be shot.

Interested in hearing more reviews like above. I'm deciding what car to get next.

I know it’s only an S3, so the comparison isn’t the same, but we bought a 2010 S3 about 3-years ago.

We probably paid over the odds for a low mileage car and then spent several grand servicing absolutely everything including haldex. It’s an S-tronic Sportback car and I wasn’t convinced when the “war department” suggested it…. Humble pie.

                    it’s a lovely, lovely car.

We took a family of four and a collie to Wales for a fortnight and it was epic.

If an RS3 Sportback is more competent with a better powerplant then there’s nothing to not like.

(I'm sure the S3's a very nice car though!)

Thanks everyone. I may have found a nice low mileage saloon but we are on holiday atm up in beautiful Dumfries so there's not much I can do. I will keep you all posted
