It was the last one they had, hopefully it will clear customs and be here next week. The only mechanical work I outsourced for the S2 was the turbo and box, as usual, Midland Turbo did a perfect job, working with me on special coatings requirements. The box… well, it was the same on the outside as when I sent it, Co2 blasted at the same time as the floor. I looked in through the fill and drain plug holes and could see it was still black inside. I painted the outside and fitted it hoping for the best but when I drove it, I could immediately hear it still exhibited the same and usual CGR 01E box input shaft wear that was a common problem even when in warranty. The builder told me on return that the input shaft was worn but he couldn’t get one; he was a little stunned when I told him Tradition have at least 100 new production of 01E 311 105 H in stock for €1275. Perhaps I will get him to rebuild it again under warranty and I will provide a new shaft. I don’t want to upset him as he builds a lot of modern VAG boxes for us but this time he ****ed up. If there is one thing I hate doing it is doing a job twice.
