just a thought along these lines in case my missus thinks the s2 is too fast when it's finished... Is there any way of limiting the power via a switch inside?

cool. I might investigate that. how much difference do you reckon it would make?
Of course there's the possibility she'll go the other way (I don't mean lezzer) and want a remap.

Alternatively just keep it below 3,500RPM and off boost. Will still be able to hit 80 on the dual carriage way without a problem, and do any chavs off the lights

Right think i need some new engine mounts lol
She was ok once she got used to it there was a bit of kangerooing till she got used to it was worryed a couple of times she thought she would stall so she was reving it up and slipping the clutch when she pulled away, i soon stopped that
She got a bit worried when we were at a roundabout and there was a car coming she done a 5000rpm drop clutch launch lol i was bricking it
car looked a bit strange with the L plates
She loves the car thoLast edited by Dan_s2_coupe; 31 October 2007, 18:31.Comment

I would never let a learner in the S2 - the car is FAR too quick for any learner. Don't forget, the way an S2 can get from 0-60 for all you regular owners of S2s is normal, you all know how to moderate the throttle correctly, what turbo lag is all about, etc but you've had years of driving experience. Can you remember what it was like to learn to drive - it's hard enough learning to cope with changing gear and keeping the car going in a straight line, let alone worrying about having poor throttle control, worrying about turbo lag and unexpectedly finding yourself at 7000rpm doing 100mph in 3rd gear. Learners have to get used to the feeling of a car accelerating under their control at the 10-20mph bracket first - they don't know where to look on the road, they don't know how to interpret the physical sensations of the engine speed, what gears they should be in, all that stuff.
Seriously guys, think about this!
I can give you my direct experience too - the forum may recall my other half learnt to drive recently - she had all her lessons in a Ford Focus, then when she passed I put her on the S2 Insurance - that early phase of her learning to cope with the S2 was a hugely steep learning curve for her. There's no way on Earth she would have been safe to drive it as a learner.Ex S2 owner, now running around in an A4 Avant quattro...

I'd agree with dan_b.
some people are bound to be fine learning in an S2/RS2/Other S car and others won't be. Like teaching any learner in any car you'd need to be really aware of everything going on because their lack of experience is what might cause a problem.
A learner doing 5000rpm launches at roundabouts and doing 120 when you're not looking would hint at a bit of over confidence (Let's be honest. These cars will do that to anyone). Sorry Dan_S2_Coupe but can you give the rest of us an idea where you're teaching her so we can keep our families away?--------------------------------------------------------------------

Where do you live Dan, just so I know to avoid the area for the next few months - no offence, but I think it's dangerous to let a learner in a car as fast as an S2 I really do. Would you let a learner out in a Porsche?Ex S2 owner, now running around in an A4 Avant quattro...
