    VAG-COM cables

I've decided its time to buy myself a VAG-COM cable so I can atleast have idea of what the car is doing when it decides to go wrong.

I have done a couple of searches and I have discovered that Rosstech is probably not the best way to go based on costs alone. I have had a look at Ecutool and will probably purchase one of their cables. I own a 3B (does this make any difference?) an I don't want to buy the wrong cable, which one is the right one to go for?

http://www.ecutool.com/myclass.asp?s...iagnostic%20(3) (this site seems really slow at the moment.

    Any help is appreciated.

Rob,ive used vagcom on your car before when it was Dans a couple of years back.I have recommended to several people to buy the alphabid stuff off ebay and as far as i know non have had any problems.(it diagnosed a faulty lambda for dan when it was running like a sack of shyte).I think jamo loves the ecutool thing but i know of people who have had problems with it.

If the cable is just for the S2 alone you can use cable 402. 405 is futureproof.

Like in life there are options and this is not the definitive solution.

I've had no problems with mine whatsoever and have numerous friends who have the same experience.

Jamo, if I were to go that route then I think I would get the 405 as my bro has a 2000 A4 and my friends have some later VAG cars too.

              VAG software:
              Versions: 3xx, 4xx, (THIS CABLE NOT SUPPORT CAN-BUS )

No good for the A4 then

The only A4 that uses CAN-BUS is the B7 A4, and that's only on the engine module and only a couple of the engines (4.2FSi and 2.0TFSi, think all the rest are k-line). It would be perfectly OK on a 2000 A4.
                  1994 Audi S2 Avant - in pieces
2006 Skoda Octavia vRS 2.0TFSi - goes fast
                  1985 Audi 90 quattro - is wet

My VAGCOM cables from ecutool.com arrived today, but where do I get the VAGCOM software from? I thought it would come with the cable. I've looked on the website, but it doesn't seem to be working properly (ASP script timeout error).

Sorry for the hi-jack, but the original VAGCOM thread where I learnt of ecutool.com is no longer accepting new posts.

You can DL it from Rosstech. Or one of us can email it to you.

vag com is invaluable on newer vag cars, vag scope is most useful too, being able to monitor things like intake temps, maf readings,actual/specified boost, timing advance/retard while driving and good data logging facilities

Thanks! Which version do I go for? All that's on my cable is "OBDII" at one end and a USB connector at the other. Can I go for 704.1 or the do I go for the older 409.1?
