Amused by the fact that the manual gearbox spec has a "clutch starter interlock" - ie. the car won't start unless you've depressed the clutch - can just imagine all those US drivers not used to "stick shift" lurching off when they've left it in gear

No offence intended to any US-resident members of the forum

Not "still run an I5", they just started. I have seen one here (US Spec) in white

Thought clutch starter interlock was commonplace here in newer cars?

I've driven several new jetta's and the Chassis is just brilliant, better than the Golf, I bet that 5 pot, combined with the chassis makes a complete package. Are we expecting that in the UK, because if we are, that'll be the second hand beast/barguin in 5 years time....

apr tuning here in greece has the I5 of the jetta and they are going to make a project car with turbo on it.I havent visited them in a while to see how this is going, although it is a slow project. They are the same guys i did my cryogenic work so this is how i found out about the new I5 of audi.
It seems to be using 81mm pistons and 134mm rods, same as the 1.8T only 5 cylinder. Also the sylinder walls are much much thinner than the ADU motor block and it seems to me that there isnt any room for larger pistons...

Yes in the US, Mexico, Panama and all the MERCOSUR (South America Market) VW AG introduced the new Jetta\Bora with a 2.5 L5 with 150hp, OHC 10V and only automatic 5speed tranny available, there's the base version of the Golf V in US that uses the same engine.

Oh... and it has an alluminum block!!! I saw a few of them in Venezuela before I leave... . They got a nice torque in the low rpm range but the car is very heavy aaaand... very SLOOOOOOWWW! hehe Due to the lenght of this engine it wont fit the Golf B1, B2, B3 and B4 series.

                  Take care buddies!

Part of a project thread on the VWVortex, IIRC the only difference in terms of engine is an intake and borla exhaust
