    Thermostat - Skoda Fabia question

I'm changing the thermostat in my other half's Fabia in the morning, I have the parts from GSF or Europarts (cant remember which..) including the O ring. Anything I need to know about fitting it? I'm asking here because AFAIK its the same as a Golf oand loads of you guys have owned these. This'll be the second one of these its had in the last year, the other fitted by local garage. I'm guessing its jammed open because the heater doesn't give any warm air and the temp gauge stays low till you sit in traffic for a while.

    TIA

They tend not to jam open. What happens s either the spring weakens and allows it to open easier or (if applicable) the wax seal breaks down allowing water flow.

Just did the stat on the S6. Just ensure you put the thermostat in the right way. Don't overtighten the housing as they are usually plastic.

It's in pretty much the same spot as it is on the S2 IIRC. Although obviously the engine's the wrong way round.

Cheers lads, I can see a small black plastic dome type housing on the passenger side so I'm expecting to find the stat in there. The car has had a problem for a year or so, the garage has replaced the stat and also the housing and sensor from what I can gather, the problem has not been properly fixed though.
Basically the car doesn't warm up and the milage has gone down so its using more fuel. Has to be the stat in my view.

I presume its just right way round not right way up too?

Which is the right way round? Bearing in mind the garage might have got it wrong??

Usually spring into the engine and brass coloured bar in a vertical orientation with airhole at the top if it has one.

Maybe a silly question, but what year, which engine? 3 or 4cyl?

Ok I think we have a problem here, the thermostat I took out had fallen to bits, but when I tried to put the same kind of new one in it pushes on a sensor which sticks out of the top of the housing, it doesnt look like the housing in the pic at all, I think the garage fitted the wrong one before and I've been supplied the wrong one too. So the wife has gone off to the Skodo garage to try and get the correct parts, the inside of the housing cover was damaged too where the pin seats in it, and it seems to have a slot and a location groove to fit a different type of stat, a more conventional shaped one.

Turns out the stat I got and the one fitted by the garage were both wrong, glad I never fitted mine, mind you you'd have to be a complete numpty to do so as it was quite obviously wrong.. Got a complete new housing ( the old one was damaged by the fitting of the wrong stat..) for 40 odd quid which included a new stat and sensor and it took 10 mins to fit and worked perfectly right away.
