i'm sure there was a law that you could refuse to have your car inspected there and then on the basis that it was inconvenient, bu that you had to present it somewhere within 24 hours or something

Anyway whats the worst case scenario if they catch you with decats on jamo??

AFAIK -

Safety related stuff either means the vehicle will not be allowed to be used, or if it can be sorted on the spot then it must be sorted.

Other stuff that is not 100% correct but isn't considered dangerous, needs to be fixed within a limited timescale, and I believe a certificate from an MoT station is then required that can be produced?

VOSA were sitting in the pub car park opposite work the other morning with a laptop out- waiting for the garage to log on and test a car, so i was extra careful when testing
as soon as the car leaves the testing station it can be pulled over and brought back to the testing station, they tell you to stop testing and then they retest the car- any points you miss are added as points to your testers licence or the garages! Luckily they left before i finished the test (It failed of course!!)
One station nearby got closed down recently by a VOSA "mystery shopper"- he didn't have an assistant so asked the VOSA guy to press brakes,shake steering etc.. and then he left the guy up in the air on the ramp while he had a fag/coffee/texted his bird etc...........and missed the 5 faults that the car was set up with.... surprisingly he's not testing anymore......

Not at all, VOSA were given new powers last year in that they can inspect cars without the presence of the Police.

They haven't really used that for safety fears of the VOSA techs.

Regarding the MOT mystery testers, yep they do that my mate told me that one MOT place wrote in paint VOSA on the bottom of the car and he didn't know about it when he took it round testing trying to catch people out

So whats the law on that, if Mr VOSA's database says your car should have a CAT fitted and its not - can they hit you with a ticket and/or an order to rectify it ?

They can order your car to be retested or the maximum they can deem your car can't be used on the road and you have to get it removed from the road without driving it or they take it away and then have it retested.


It's not the cat they look for it's emissions, they normally do an emissions check.
