SAAB 9000 Aero I had was (in the dry remember, lacking in the 4 wheel drive department) probably quicker once moving, handled at least as well, was also a good (ish) badge and was considerably more reliable.... apart from I did knacker the gearbox....
really regret selling that now too, but hey.... was front wheel drive, so will never actually compare to the quattro - especially in the wet ....SAAB was way more comfortable though....

MR2 Turbo pre 94, 245bhp, supposed to go 0-60 5.5 secs, not bad, but as an alrounder another member has stated the celica gt4 (wrc spec my addition) is a great too.
I currently have an MR2 hence the bias (well sort of) but am looking into going german!MR2 Turbo, Rev 3, Standard 240hp 0-60 5.5s, Rwd...its all about driving sidewaysComment

Touche!Unless its raining
And if you are allowed to put trick cams and a zorst on that Mk2 Golf, then I'm allowed some software tweaks and a bigger airbox on the S2 !
Seriously though, I think this list can only contain cars that are 4WD as there is little point in comparing the S2 to a 2WD hot hatch in pure terms of bhp or 0-60 performance. Many a BTCC / TOCA tin-top racing event proved the quattro advantage - often in the dry in the right hands, wearing the right boots
You can have your software tweaks and your airbox!
When that s2 comes chundering over the line a lap behind just remember what car those smouldering standard brakes were designed for!
sorry couldn't resist. what have I done!
Talking of software...you have PM.
back on the subject of cars how about a golf rallye??

Or ofcourse it could also stand for Faster In A Taxi !
For the higher end scale of S2 prices, things like Skyline GTR's can be had (mint R32's, and rougher R33's), they seem a better finish than the rafts of Evo's and Impreza's, though the nearest Jap quivalent would have to be the Legacy BK's which are creeping downwards in value, or the Mitsubishi Galant VR4 (if we're talking about the S2 Avant this is)! And, even it's younger sibling, the S4, some saloon's of them are now hitting the same value as a good condition, higher priced S2! But, regardless what thjey're compared to, the S2 is pretty much one on it's own with the 5cylinder howl (disregarding the Volvo's - FWD!!!) - so that atleast can't be bettered, can it?Audi 80 S2 Nothelle N300 Avant, 1993, Amethyst Pearl VW/Audi Car Magazine article about this very car
