still making & selling parts for them. Why doesn't Audi do the same? Even Porsche still makes parts for the 356. I'm starting to notice more & more NLA on the parts list at the dealer. Pretty soon parts for our cars will be extinct. What then will we do?
Its this sort of thing that puts me off buying another Audi. So much for brand loyalty.

Yep. Short sightedness (is that a word?) in the extreme. If we move on to other brands, we are unlikely to change back to new ones.
I like owning a rare car, but I still want to be able to buy parts for it rather than design my own!

This is exactly why I developed the 1.8t coil pack conversion - in advance of the day when the OE AAN, ABY and ADU POSs and coils would be NLA.
Whether (or when) that will actually happen remains to be seen. At least we have an option - well at least until they stop making 4 pin coil packs. Even then, there are other 4 pin coil packs out there, e.g. Ford Mustang, Hayabusa, etc.

I bet once you look into the reality of it, alot of other brands have loads of NLA parts too!
Remember the S2 is a rare car anyway...
I know the Cavalier GSI and Turbo have alot of NLA parts these days, as do ALOT of parts for the old RS Fords.
What I do find odd is, Audi have the museum with alot of rare cars in, so it shows they do have atleast some interest in their heritage.
Comparing that to Vauxhall for example, who have a small heritage centre in Luton, which isnt even owned or run by Vauxhall!
It is the VBOA (Vauxhall, Bedford, Opel Association) and they have about 15 or so cars there.
Infact, the last ever Cavalier to come off the production line there was on ebay last week, they were'nt even bothered to keep that at the time!
I knew someone who did exactly that!
Before he sold up and emigrated he had a MASSIVE collection of Cavalier GSI spares, all brand new in the original boxes and bags.
Most were bought on ebay and car shows etc over the last 10 years, when most were still freely available, so he got them cheap.
Over time more and more became NLA, and he made a fortune when selling up.
He could of near enough build a couple of complete cars from it all apart from the shells!
a couple of weeks back i saw somewhere (maybe here or motorgeek) that either all or nearly all parts from the old bmw 2002's from the early 1970's are still available from bmw.
I know about this, I was able to get all the parts that I needed for my BMW E30 from the dealer, even if they needed to be ordered from Germany (headlights). Half the time Audi aren't even interested in fixing the cars.

I've got a few BMW 2002's and BMW not only still makes parts for them, but they have a whole department called Mobile Tradition that among other things looks at stock that becomes NLA and has them remanufactured if the demand is still there. They recently built a complete 2002 from new parts - there were very few things they had to refurbish.
I am no BMW fan... but fair play to them - that is a fantastic way to look after the older cars.
If Audi UK or DE won't do it then they should at least have the decency to work with some outsourced specialists and manufacturers with provision of drawings and specifications when important parts become NLA. That way Audi can continue to wash their hands of the legacy of their tatty old cars without leaving owners in the shyte and perfectly good old cars getting broken up to salvage rare parts. There is a business opportunity there for someone with the right contacts and background.
