Need Help!! What Suspension Do You Run??

Hey guys iv hit a bit of a brick wall on this one, i need a set of shockers on the qc so i decided to upgrade.

I have looked around and theres not too many people that list the s2 in fact most places dont even know what a S2 is

I have found some KW coilovers for around £740 and some buget lowering kit for around £300 but thats about it apart from the H R springs v corse but i think there alot of money for a fixed ride hight.

I would prefer coilovers as then i can sit the coupe exactly where i want it on any rims i decide i want on.

So the big question is what do you guys run and how do you rate them for quality and price??

    Cheers
    Lukas

    Hi Lukas,

    The usual combinations,

H&R with Bilstein - low and hard
Standard Springs & Bilsteins - Firm and controlled
Koni Springs and Shocks - Crashy from what I remember
Coilovers- Adjustable depending on which type you go for.

ETA, I have just re read your post, I don't think you will get what you want on the cheap. Do not bother with any of the budget spring / shock manufacturers, they are not up to the job on the Audi Coupe. Perhaps keep an eye out for some secondhand kit.

I would do a good search of the Suspension Forum, there are loads and loads and loads of posts with good feedback on the different types...

I am sure others will be along with their views too!

    Cheers,

Nothing wrong with HnR and Koni / Billies, tried and tested by a lot of people.

Adjustable wise Anton has KW2 coilovers and he's very pleased with them, I believe Wolfgang also has the KW2s. I'd love them if I had the dosh. There's also the Mance coilover kit that you can get from the states along with many others like ground control. They're DIY do you need patience, time to experiment and someone who can weld proper like, I'd get a spare set of struts too. A few forum members have these kits and I'm sure there's loads of info on motorgeek. HTH.

Koni shocks are not crashy and infact Koni / H&R is the best option to retain comfort and low ride height.

Bilsteins give a firmer setup and are the ultimate fast road / track setup before going coilover at the price of comfort.

....I would base any upgrade on what you intend to do with the car though, if you love spanking it down country lanes etc, then DON'T get the bilstein/H&R combo unless you like really choppy (very unsettled) ride, squirelling steering and crashing over every rut on the surface.

However, if you like track days and spend most of the time on a-road/m-ways then they are perfect. Expect to budget for a set of replacement top-mounts every so often too as these take a hammering, or consider upgrading them too.

I've just fitted some KW V2's to my Avant and although I'm yet to drive it in anger, first impressions are good

Passenger side went after about 800 miles that would have had probably more to do with a cr*ppy road back from the Ring....something like 11miles of uneven pre-stressed concrete slabs

Promounts seem fine on mine with semi-harsh suspension after 10k miles (including the carousel and the rumble strip on adenau bridge). Took them out a while ago and no play in the bearing.

Coilovers seem like a massive waste of moneyz if you're not doing regular track work.

I'm getting some 034 top mounts so will have to see how they do, especially as they're 1/10th the price!

Agree with Acid, Koni sports with stock springs are fab around town and B-A roads , no bottoming, usefully stiffer and more control but still work on bumps, get a little floaty at high speed on the track though. One turn stiffer on the front and half a turn on the back is a good balance. I dont really agree with lowering cars though, I think mine looks good the way it is.

Yeah mines not lowered atm but it will be soon because i'm running with 19's but tbh its fine as it is i've just got the stuff to do it so i'm going to do it. Even with those wheels its still fine in terms of comfort etc.

cheers guys i will look more into it then.

To be honest i cant ever see myself selling the car now and i have the readys saved 2 use but as any1 i would prefer to spend it on other things on the car but if i can get some good quality gear then its always worth that extra bit of money to get it right first time, as i have had bad experiances with buying cheap and buying twice with my last project Golf VR6.

I do give the car a hard time when im out and the WOW THIS CAR IS AWSOME mode kicks in so defo need somthing that can take county lanes and A+B roads at speed as at the mo its like fighting with a angry double decker bus as it bobs around and wallows (hence the bad shockers). the KW V2 coilys sound the part but there £1000 and the V2 are £750 so what do i do??
