    s2 aby non starter leeds

    hi everybody,

my s2 was driving good and proper, then the next day it just wont start. it turns but wont fire up.
the fuel pump is working fine and there is a spark. the timing belt's nicely tensioned and there is good compression in the cylinders. i've had a look on here already and tried the water trick on the cam hall sensor but to no avail. are there any idea's to what it can be?

    thanks julian

have you checked MAF,and coils? also lamda?

If you dont have a VAGCOM near by,there is a meed in Harrogate coming up and i can plug in to have a look at your ECU.

i've checked the maf and its good, all coils give off a spark.i dont know about the lambda though. i'm coming up to the sun inn next week i was just hoping to be in my s2. should i bring my ecu, could that be the problem?

andy, i've left the ecu unplugged overnight and that hasn't worked. boost pipes are ok.
what fuses could it be? can't you just come up from plymouth and have a look!

You don't need Vagcom, read the blink codes, instructions on S2 central.

have you ever replaced the fuel filter? if it is turning but not coming on,it could be glogged up.

ECU alone needs a bit of work to check for error codes,as it needs to be plugged into a car,so one ecu must be taken off and yours plugged in...

Are the rubber connectors to the plugs ok?

as for the fuses, check the one that is for the fuel pump,as it could be blown and that could be the problem

Did you check both the motor fuses under the little red cover?

I doubt its hoses, they wouldn't stop the car from starting, even if you have the TB hose unplugged it will still start up but then struggle like hell.

Let us know what the blink codes reveal.

In the fuse box, center bottom. They are covered and say Motor on them. I had one go once and the car wouldn't start until it was replaced.

                      good luck

If you have spark on crank over, then the cam position sender is working. If the car still doesn't start and you have spark, then it points at either fuel or timing. You say the timing belt is tight so we have to assume (for now) that the belt has not skipped a cog or two. You also say that the fuel pump is working fine but you don't say why you think so. Because it is whining in the back of the car? That doesn't mean anything. You need to test to see if you are getting fuel to either the fuel filter or the fuel rail.

I am not sure which fuse an S2 fuel pump is on but with and UrS4 (or S6) you can put power into the F17 fuse holder and drive the pump for a test, independent of everything else.

Here is one example fuel pump test that you can use as a guide:
