Simple choice. £25k to spend, would you go for a Cayman or a 911 (964/993/996).
It's 911 for me, 964 for a toy / 996 for every day duties. Can't get to grips with the styling of the Cayman, it seems to all go wrong after the B pillar...

Easy answer, one of the earlier 911 for me, '63–'89, Targa or Turbo :-)

Could only be a '83 Turbo for me! Its the only car I would consider losing the S2 for! If you get a Cayman you will only ever wonder if you should have got a 911.
911 any day. We have a 993 in the family which is a cracking car, but be warned owning a Quattro and a 911 is a dangerous combination! It can also be the perfect compromise. Which one you drive depends on the weather

The Gayman still seems like a bit of a hairdressers car. I understand it is slightly de-tuned so it does not out shine it's big brother. I still could not stand the looks though.
I think an early 911 Turbo or 964 RS or 996RS / Carrera 4 is the only realistic car I would chop my S2 in for. And as I don't have nearly enough money, I will be sticking with my S2 for a long while yet.
There is something about this that floats my boat though!

964 turbo cause you cant beat the looks i think or carrera 4 if needs awd and to be less a killer
cayman has engine in best place and from what i hear makes handle best, but this audi forum so engines hanging over the axle common place so why worry.
also cayman sounds so much like gay-man :L

Can you remove the new bits please, the R8 bit will obviously win and I want to know what people would choose between the 911 and Cayman for £25k. I've been discussing this with a friend and wondered if I was wrong in thinkning that the Gayman looked toss.

A mate has one of these, been sitting there doing nothing for about 2 years, i seem to remember there was an issue with the clutch, but it drove last time it was started. I reckon he'd let it go for a grand if anyone's got the courage!!!????
Cayman v capable car mind Andy, not to be underestimated. Its still got that image of a half way house between Boxster & 911 tho. New press pics of the 09 model just came out this week, tbh, only v subtle differences styling wise.
For a w/end warrior, any air-cooled 911 will give you more of the fun-factor and you'll drive it by the seat of your pants. As an everydayer the 996 is a v tempting car tho BUT needs some mods to get more feeling from it. If you're talking £25k tho, you'd be better off finding another £5k from somewhere and buying a 996tt or standard 997. Nice 964RS's start at about £32k now and are only going up in value.
Depreciation wise 996's have dropped BIG time (with 997's following suit), as an investment a tidy 993 would prob be the best bet for £25k, especially a C2S or 4S (widebody). I had a 964 RS spec for about 3half years and loved it big time (apart from a 3rd gear powerslide up at Rockingham resulting in a trip to the gravel and ended up having the WHOLE car re-sprayed! ). Drive em both and see, there is no getting away from it the tho, whether it be a Boxster, Cayman or 996 - they are all a leap ahead of the old skool air-cooled cars. Do the newer cars entertain as much - NOT A CHANCE!!
BTW, where are these £25k R8's and 959's???
ETA - whilst on a Porsche tip, litreally just had an email from Porsche AG press dept - they are releasing a Cayenne Diesel next year with, (wait for it)........an Audi engine!! You heard it here first...
