    Strange noises??

    Hey guys,

I have mentioned this on here before but can't fin the thread. Right, at idle strange noise coming from either in the engine bay or behind the dash.
Quite a non descript whirring, blowing, girgling noise. Now the odd ting is it is there at idle but not whilst driving with the foot on the old loud pedal gently and returns once the foot id off the pedal. Continuosly always there. really weird and starting to confuse me a bit. I thought it may be the dual mass clutch? Is this a possibility?

Any thoughts or anyone who has had this before and cured it?

    Cheers guys

I have the same thing and in the exact same place. I wondered if the rubber seal at the base of the steering column had worked loose and was transmitting noise into the cabin and havent yet checked it out. Definately odd though - car seems to be pulling well though so thoughts are a supplementary system or circuit at the moment for me....possibly hydraulic/vaccum/steering related IMO

Keep you posted if i find something obvious that cures mine

Could possibly be the rear crank seal. Strange I know, but they have been known to emit some strange noises as air gets past.

mine sounds higher up than that and was replaced with the clutch a while back...hope its still sound. Having said that the inside of the bell housing was oily when i had the engine out last summer but not sure if that was from the old one which gave up.

Cheers, from being under there I can def say it is ot the pulley on the cooler, I have removed part of the aircon system (just front bits so far) so that is not running anything through it so that can't be it either. The PSpump is fully topped up and doesnt make any noise at all from the front so I can't imagine it passing any back, the only noise I can here from the engine bay is (I think) the bearing starting to go on the alternator....... and the wizard fitted a new clutch last year and I am sure he would have mentioned the crank seal if it was going so can't see it being that plus I would have thought that sound would have been muted by the bell housing.

So thoughts are after speaking breifly to the wizard about it......

              1. Poss lost a grommet in the bulkhead letting engine noise in esp if it is near the bell housing!
              2. Poss small air leak on a pipe/valve to do with the cruise control.

It can wait till summer for me to have a good look around to try to sort.
