Um, he didn't need the diff locked he was sideways most of the time anyways, on the straight before the chicane it was a case of:
110 ish mph, look around for a bit then remember the corners coming up, ram it into third turn in find the rumble strips whilst going sideways and yank the other way for the next corner

kept up and over took quite a few caterams as well
and had fun with a guy in a green beemer that had been painted with a roller, i'll upload some of the pics to a new thread in a mo.

Well the snow didn't come to me so I went and found it... Had a fantastic time in the S2 with the Pirelli Snowsports on - just so easy to keep up decent speeds A to B and make easy progress where others were floundering or not even attempting hills. I got many curious looks from others. Only time I had issues was in the really deep troughs... It was getting well stuck into the wheel arches and into ducts for the oil cooler & IC. Water temp crept up a bit but I haven't had that much fun at 40mph - just fantastic.
I'd love to get into a big wide open space to explore the limits of grip properly and get the hang of that scandinavian 'flick' for one thing... But with 4WD and the right tyres its just easy to get about in the snow. The missus followed me up into the hills in the Allroad with its all season tyres - and whilst she was very nervous making much slower progress than me, she had no problems at all. Quattro is built for this weather. Bring it on !Paul Nugent

RWD and an LSD isn't quite so sure footed but you learn pretty quickly! Glad in a way that the S2 has stayed tucked up at home as previous experience of snow indicates that gaining speed is easy but loosing spped, not quite so easy! Diff lock mod is a must for playing! Nothing worse than it disengaging at WOT in 1st whilst getting your drift on

gotta say that snow tyre grip is amazing.....must be even better on a quattro, on our a6 avant in the french alps it went up everything before, during and after 50+cm dump

The difflock is brilliant for starting up some snownuts - the wee fella was in the car and he's laughing away... Took me a while to get the hang of them - I really must cut that blue/white wire... BUt once you get into the groove of it its just joyful playing on the throttle with the nose barely moving. Apologies to everyone in earshot of Knockagh monument if I was making too much noise !
Which reminds how much I laughed at the idiot in a brand new Volvo who tried to get up that hill - he blocked the road until he and his pal dug it out - I waited a safe distance behind until he got moving and into the opening for his driveway to open his gate... The look on his face as this old Audi was boosting past him was priceless - that and a certain young man waving out the window saying 'bye bye slow poke'... on we travel to the top of the hill and the only other thing there was a land rover - and some brave soul in a Punto with its bicycle tyres on. Brilliant...Paul Nugent
