If there was only one way to do the basic jobs the right way, there wouldn't be any need for a forum.
The most important posts and threads are those showing what you should not try 'cause it ended up in a total mess, but it can't be usefull if everybody does the same job the same way following somekind of S2 holly Bible. The frontier feeling you get when nobody is said to know the best way to upgrade, leaves space for everybody to do it better or at least in a different way, leading fore example to the sheer endless variety of brake porn you can find on here.
    I might be wrong though.
    cheers

I think ALL the valid points and opinions have already been made and stated.

IMO The biggest problem is TIME. No one has enough to collate and condense the information required into bite sized amounts, which is one reason why it has only been done on handfuls of subjects.

Also, there is not always a "One Size Fits All" solution, so you need to go and research the best solution for you.

More importantly and if I may be so bold, I don't think everyone (or even very many) members on here are qualified to produce a write up regarding upgraded braking systems, including drawings for brackets etc. I am a qualified Engineer but would be very retiscent about issuing drawings or information detailing a brake upgrade for someone else to copy which potentialy has my name on it!

However, all that said, there is certainly always scope for improving the forum write ups and organisation, and any volunteers that want to help and join in are always welcome.

The Mods try and tidy up and add / collate information where they can, but it is time consuming to do on top of all other things we have going on here and off the forum.

      Cheers,

      Steve.

To have definitive threads for each modification and method would generate a huge amount of new threads and posts. As has been mentioned earlier in this thread you would need different versions depending on whether your car is a daily driver, show pony, dyno queen or track car and also the maintenance methods would change depending on the owner. i.e servicing intervals etc

I agree that that it can be dificult to locate information quickly but I also agree that having to read lots of differing opinions/methods/techniques gives a person a better understanding of why things are done in certain ways. There will always be different ways of doing things and different reasons for doing them. What works for me and my car would be totally unacceptable to Steve (FatAudi80) for example. It doesn't make either of us wrong or right as we have differing opinions of what we we want our cars to be.

Might I suggest that rather than creating new 'easy to read' instructional threads would it not be an idea to make existing threads of interest into 'stickies'. I don't know if we could then have a section that list sticky threads from across the forum in one place.

Also on this topic, we have been gradually filling in the forum FAQ which contains alot of the simple stuff, and the mods are adding bits into it as and when they can

Thats the key to these engines and cars, unlike subarus and evo's you cant just go and buy kits that bolt on from internet shops. Parts that you need will have to come from many walks of life.

I have bits from all over the show compiled together to make what i wanted but it took along time to get there.

There are so many ways to make these cars better, weather it be build and design the parts your self or go to a expert Ie Aelred or Repo and pay for there time and skills.

And one thing is for sure, there is not many bad people in the audi comunity so dont be afriad to ask why every now and again

              My 2pennies worth...

I've been on this forum for a couple of years now and being married to Ross, my knowledge is slowly growing. (big shock to you boys I know) but just last night I had Ross give me a play by play run through regarding the Avant Project and what will happen this weekend when all the lads arrive to help put the engine in.

But I still find most of the threads on here very very difficult to read/understand. Problem is too, those persons who are qualified or educated enough to understand the mechanics seem to find it difficult to explain them in a easy way.

http://www.amazon.com/Auto-Repair-Du.../dp/0764550896 - something like this but entitled "Audi S2 upgrades for Dummies" would be oh so helpful.

I love this idea, I am relatively new to all this and rely on my partner (Acidburn) to sit and go through stuff bit by bit! Having said that the information given on here tends to be informative and interesting, I look forward to getting more involved when our PROJECT arrives
