          New VAG petrol I5

The PR text accompanying the pictures is enigmatic, with Audi confirming only that the car’s 2.5-litre five-cylinder engine produces ‘well above 300PS’ and delivers ‘explosive acceleration, driving delight and unrivalled sound’. Quote: “A legend is reborn".

The five-cylinder motor is a cut-down version of Audi’s stonking V10 with a single turbocharger. Its output is somewhere in the region of 340bhp with 330lb ft of torque

They need to re-create the legends because they're not exactly supporting the old ones. I hardly think that a TT is a suitable replacement for the quattro but hey, I'm not some 'head up my **** marketing type'

Looks like it understeers like an Audi at least.

As disgust before... Is it a proper in-line 5 or a wacky V5 layout ?

I thought it was a transverse mounted V5 - hence the derivative from V10 - I don't think you could package an in-line 2.5l five pot in the TT. Happy to be wrong though. Maybe Audi are trying to get back to their roots again with the 5-pot retro turbo thing...

cant see it having the tunability or life of the real I5.

modern engines tend not to be as strong but in better tollerance. Jap engines tend to eb better for tuning. evo and honda engines have better flow standard than most good porters can get from the audi stuff.

volvo make some good engines but the 4 pot t4 motor is the one ive seen tuned more recently with sucess

The engine's the wrong way around mate.. it's transverse.

Paul - The stuff I've read and heard about (I'm good friends with the guy who runs the TTOC) points to an I5. The Top Gear site said something about it being a "VR5" and I'm not sure that PH are on the button suggesting that it's half of the V10 either.

                          We'll know after Geneva.

How the hell can they fit a proper I5 into a TT transversely ? I'm confused.com...
