Regarding Rs4 gearbox and engine.... Mounting wise the gearbox will mount straight in and i suspect engine mounts will be the only real headscratcher (possibly be similar location).

IIRC, Mr Simmonds was telling me about an A1 replica Quattro in ireland which had the rs4 engine and gearbox fitted.... the RS4 has the same subframe as the original Quattros from memory..

one of the difficult things is the turbo's which are on the side of the engine, very difficult to make it fit. in a typ85 it won't fit for example.

here's a pic of the RS4 in the fwd coupé:

thanks lads. Great links. It's a whole lotta work eh? I thought it was cramped in there with a standard S2 engine but that looks just silly. I'll see if he's going ahead and if so get him registered on here to document the tale.

haha. aye I wouldn't have the slightest idea where to start. The engine he's been offered has already had £000s done to it he says so god knows what that involves. He's dead set on getting the engine anyway and I think the car it's going into is a secondary consideration. Might as well throw it in the back of a mini pickup or van and go really nuts

I am helping with an 83 URQ that is getting a 2.7tt with k04s and software in Las Vegas. It is really a rediculous amount of work and not really worth it IMO. The 6 speed 01e is in as well, which is turning out to be the biggest hurdle of the project. If it was my project, and I was dead set on the v6 motor, I would put a single 35r on it like Ringlord did in that MG thread. There is just no room in the type 85/89 chassis between the frame rail...

Motormounts are made from scratch, brake MC and pedal assy are from the a6 v6tt, as is the shifter.. T

I keep promising the Motorgeek crowd pictures as well, so as soon as they are available I will post them up here...

Good to hear from you Hank. It will be good to see pics and hear more about this. I do agree that it seems completely mental the more I think about it. Especially when you read that the downpipes don't fit past the CV joints after you get the bloody engine in!
