    S2/RS2 Low HP

    Hi,

A 1993 ABY S2 I have been looking at buying which has RS2 Intake Manifold, RS2 Turbo, RS2 Intercooler, Green Injectors and full Milltek has just been assessed on a rolling road and the results weren't quite what I was expecting.

I was expecting somewhere in the region of 300-350 on the fly.

But according to the results it is producing 260 on the fly and 230 at the wheel.

Which seems a bit low to me! I am an amateur when it comes to turbo's etc so any help would be much appreciated!

As I understand it the hp would depend on the mapping? Would there be any good reason why it would be mapped to such low hp? Is there an easy way to check that it has the RS2 turbo etc? Is 300-350 a reasonable expectation?

Please ask any questions so I can get to the bottom of this.

    Thanks in advance,

    Will

More info required really but... There could simply be a boost leak.

What boost is it making ?

Is it misfiring, knocking or anything odd ?

A properly mapped one should be anywhere from 330-380bhp depending on how aggresively it has been done. Maybe an ebay chipset has been used here ?
Maybe the wrong MAP sensor is fitted ?

Search for the RS2 Turbo part number on the forum - its somethin like K24 7200 but I can't recall the other numbers - you should just be able to see a plate stamped on the compressor.

It's like any car with an ecu, it needs to be remapped to take advantage of it's new increased capacity for power. Your car is probably still mapped for it's standard componants, get yourself booked into a good audi specialist (perhaps someone on here could recommend one?) and you should see 300 at least I imagine and if there is anything amiss which s2central has already mentioned, they will pick up on it quickly and offer a remedy.

From what I have read it is never a good idea to upgrade injectors without a remap, since the ecu still thinks it has the standard items in there, the pulse timing is still the same and thus you get more fuel than desired which can result in bore-wash.

I'm pretty sure that it has been remapped since all the RS2 stuff was added.

When tested on the rolling road they tested everything and the car is apparantly very clean, no knocks etc. They tested the boost pressure and said that it boosted smoothly which I assumed meant it had no leaks? I could probably get more detailed info on the boost pressure but all I know so far is what I was told in a quick phone call. If there are any questions that I should ask let me know and I'll find out the answers.

To make things easier and for background the car I'm talking about is the one advertised here: http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthr...hlight=stewart

        Thanks

As it not your car yet willcoles - see if you can get hands onto a proper RS2 ECU - maybe someone can lend you one... Then you will know if the existing ECU has been tweaked or not. If you end up buying it - I can get you into 350bhp country - no sweat... As long its mechanically healthy etc and actually does have an RS2 turbo fitted.

Right well - if its that car, then it will have been mapped properly in the past. It used to be owned by a brother of one of the MRC guys. I'm wondering has the ECU since been removed and something else swapped in. Its that or something is amiss.

Do us a favour and unplug the WGFV, then see what mechanical boost it makes. It *might* be that the WGFV is dead (or its fuse) and isn't making full boost as a result.

Just spoke to the mechanic again: @ 6500rpm the boost peaked at 20psi and dropped back down to 13psi, there are definatly no boost leaks as they checked the fueling and everything was working as it should.

I'm in London at the moment and the car is in Aberdeen, so don't really have access, if the figures are as above is the WGFV any more/not likely?

              Thanks

Something sounds a-miss, as has been said it should be doing 330-380whp.

How come it says its been sold last week on that thread?

Peaked at 20psi? Should be doing more than that if remapped properly, an ABY homefry does 20psi.

It's been provisionally sold to me on the condition that the test on the rolling road went goes ok, I wanted to be sure that everything was good before I trecked up to Aberdeen!

Doesn't sound right, I talked to a previous owner's borther () and it was running 370bhp and 380ftlbs. Sounds like it needs a good once over to identify what's up. Not having much luck finding a mota then Will

Even the most moderatley remapped RS2 should be approx 1.5bar (21psi) max and 1.3bar at 6000...

I need to see graphs from the test to have any real chance of helping any further on this one.

When Doug's brother owned the car wasn't it running a K26/K27?

IIRC, it was RS2 with milltek and Mihnea map.
