    Dragstrip times?

Hi, dident know where to put this, but have any of you been to the strip with your cars?
Any with "std setup" maybe with a chip, or what you have?
Really interested, as i´m going in a few weeks, and want to compare to my cossie times as it weighs the same as an s2 qoupe.
My avant has custom cooler, homefries, k&n in boks and otherwise std
Am hoping for a high 13sec, is this possible?

I did 3 runs at 14.1 to 14.3 (all around 6.0-6.1s 0-60) at GTi on a stock ABY with only an RS2 MAF and airbox.

Launched at 5,500 rpm and hit the sweet spot every time .....even mullered Greg with 340BHP (ish) off the line :mischeif: but when he hit 3rd he went past me like I had hit the brakes

You must have been very kind to your clutch as the homefries guys were doing mid 13s to my low 14s.

Was gonna say that mid 13s smells about right for that setup, but it would be nice to see what the new V-stream can do up the quarter. I haven't timed them yet myself - but then my old clutch isn't liking launches this weather so I'm a bit scuppered.

What did you guys find was a good RPM to shift on a stock turbo?

On my best run I short shifted (a tad) rather than running to the red line as the stock turbo drops off too much at the higher revs. Can't remember now but probably 5.5-6k so that I landed on peak torque for the next gear.

I can't see the point in red lining it beyond 1st (and maybe 2nd) unless you have a turbo that hold max boost all the way, but I stand to be corrected.

                    Cheers n

Si is right - peak power is ~6000 rpm and the boost profile is reducing at this stage on stock turbo. Changing at 6k gets you into peak torque country around 4k for the next gear - well that works on the 6 speed boxes pretty well.

As much as its tempting to roll round to 7k rpm - when you look at some GTech runs you see that acceleration is reduced... If you had a bigger turbo that made peak torque in 4.5-5krpm territory then you could use more revs to get you there for the shift.

                      Does that make sense ?

Yeah i was very kind. I think i only launched it about 2.5k-3k rpm. At the time the car was a daily so ineede it for work etc. Next time with my RS2 bits on i wont be so kind although i need some lessons in launching as i have only done one run.

I did a 14.1 sec 1/4 mile, 5.51 0-60 at gti international a while ago on my std aby

if i remember it was the hotest day on record about 38 deg c which was not good for full power so i resorted to removing the spare tyre, the parcel shelf and headlight unit in front of the airbox to boost performance

i seem to remember i did a launch from around 4-5k, but did a rubbish change up from 1st to 2nd (0.5 secs) and revved it to the redline
