Some #$&% wit stole my mothers car...

My mum went to visit my sister in Belfast for a few days and the car was stolen on the first night. Rang the Police the next morning and they had already found it a few miles away burnt out in a field. Thankfully it wasn't one of our Audis but a 2003 Seat Leon TDi. I don't care much for the car but it really ticks me off that somebody will rob an old ladys car and burn it out for no reason whatsoever

We're looking at a few Skoda Fabia VRS Diesels as a replacement, anybody ever driven one? Need to get a new car sorted ASAP as she's driving around in my coupe at the moment

Jees - and there was me joking with Noel about how quiet Belfast was these days... well it is of course all relative, but these robbin theivin scumbags are in every city I suppose. Totally senseless. You are probably lucky that its a total loss - you wouldn't want it back after being repairable.

Its seems to be an epidemic in my sisters area (old saintfield road/caryduff), they have had two Audi 80's stolen, first one came back with a full tank of fuel, new tyres, freshly serviced, and a TV in the boot ...only in Northern Ireland! Second one was written off as uneconomical to repair.

They also tried to steal my old Honda CR-X no less than 15 times in a year. Was a running joke every three weeks when my sister would ring "they had another go"

The Seat just doesn't make any sense, why would anybody want to joyride a diesel Leon As you say glad its a total loss, never did like the car and can do without the hassle of trying to get it repaired.

yep, my dad has one.. his one is chipped to something like 170hp and that is quick, very quick, handling is nimble, seats are good, can't find anything bad about it. quality-wise the car is almost Audi like, and is as reliable as you'll want a car to be. usually he changed cars every other year, he has had this one for more than 3 years and has no intention to sell it. If I would ever be looking at a small car, I would look no futher than that one. (only need to find a way to put an I5 in it)

I rented one once - they are surprisingly nimble alright. My only annoyance with it in factory trim is the stupid boost / fuel cut when left foot braking - I'm sure that can be mapped out by someone in the know.

They found the Audi with fake plates sitting in a housing estate, one of the neighbours rang the plod as it was sitting there for a few days. Police say it was prepped and parked as a getaway car. Funniest part was when Tony got home and found the TV he rang the police station again, they told him they knew nothing about it and hung up

The Fabias seem to get great reviews all round, i've driven an A6 with the 130bhp engine and it was a flyer so they must be a hoot to drive. I plan to test drive a few this weekend..

Like your style Paul, don't be gentle its a rental!

I hate that, the only thing worse is someone breaking into your house.

My dads mk3 cortina was stolen from outside our house a few years ago, was a nice car, and was later found by the cops wrapped around a pole, and sometime later a Hilman Hunter was also taken from our house. Although tbh we really didnt mind that one

The only thing stolen since was two half barrels with potted plants in them, earth and all.

christ almighty. aye I was just joking with Paul but I know this still happens a fair bit in certain areas and apparently you aren't allowed to hook a shotgun shell up to the door so that opening it without disengaging a short wire within allows a trigger to spark the cartridge right in the thieving bassrd's face. Beats the hell out of a gearstick lock anyway.
How upsetting also that it's apparently easy enough to steal a relatively modern car, and by fukwit joy riders, not some technically educated ring of thieves looking for performance cars to sell on. There's a lot to be said for the threat of knee capping that mostly stops joy riding in certain areas.

Just thought of something else, the Seat Leon has an immobilzer built into the keys, would love to know how they managed to get around that

Yeah, three of five off the road -

Be interested to know how The Seat was taken when it has a factory immobiliser ?

                        Kind regards.

Ahh good old belfast... it's alright for me to give the place grief, I live there, lol lol.

Had a fair bit of mindless vandalism to my cab - wing mirrors kicked off, various key scrapes etc but the icing on the cake was the wee $£@% who decided to take a stanley knife to my plastic rear screen.....

Never stolen tho, touch wood here.. Like the others I thought the immob meant they'd need to steal the keys?

                            Madagent,

Can I ask what you did / are doing about the roof's rear window as mine has the same problem ?, old age rather than a knife though.

                            Thanks.

Glad you asked that actually David,

After searching long and hard for someone on this side of the water who would do just the window I have had no luck - couple of places nearer to you will do the whole roof, new window included obviously, for about €1000, but certainly none up here that I can find. Thats a lot of money too though.

So it looks like a boat over then somewhere in Scotland or up north somewhere - there are plenty of places to choose from there that do just the window - think the cheapest I saw was around the £300 mark or so. That brings us on to the replacement being sewn in rather than zipped like the OEM window.... ah the joys....

Decided against buying the zip in window and trying myself, read some reports that said it was tricky to say the least.

what;s your plans? You or anybody else know something I don't ?

                              D

Oh - Sorry for hi-jacking the thread a bit...
