Never thought Id say it, but drove my mates 330d today and it is AWESOME!!

I must add, its not standard... 400lb/ft of torque certainly pulls well and to top it off, it still does 50mpg

Let me add, Ive not been converted to BMW... Ive been converted from never liking diesels!
I always thought of them as boring, slow, noisy, smelly, smoky things, but I have now seen different lol

Got to agree 530 or 535d touring what a car, dare i say it better put together than the audi's i can say this safely after seeing both in the flesh as my bro had a a6 quattro tdi in with some light frontal and also a 530d with similar damage and looking around the pair i have to say i liked the Beemers build quality and there finishing
But the both have there niggles

i'm sure they make some great cars to drive but I've never been excited by BMWs, the interiors are the most boring place to be in the world and exterior styling is very bland IMHO.

No, it was intented to be a thread about diesels being better than I thought!
The fact it was a 330d is irrelivant. Look beyond the badge, its boring.
The one I drove today felt no more bland, boring or worse put together than my B5 S4 did.
Audi's are NOT the be all and end all of motoring, no matter how many people would like to think so!

The ONLY reason I drove it is because I had to bring it home so I could polish it over the weekend. Otherwise I would of never stepped into one.

It has opened my eyes, and certainly put a totally new edge on my current problem: wanting a car with decent performance, and good MPG

I would never of thanked you for a beemer but after having a shot of one i was really impressed and the fact BMW can supply bits for the classic cars would be a good enough reason LOL

Not atall. I just simply dont have time for the "its not an X so its instantly crap" train of thought.
Maybe I should of worded it differently and just said I was impressed with a turbo diesel today... if I had said it was an A4 TDI everyone would of loved it?!
