    Toyota recalls 3.8M US vehicles

Yeah, I know this is an Audi site with a largely UK audience, but I don't mind making Toyota look a little daft.

Back to the story... they're recalling 3.8M vehicles seemingly because the drivers floormat can move and jam the accelerator pedal. Full story here (BBC News link), here (Toyota link) and here (Lexus link).

Shocked, exhausted, hosed, bushed, dumped, chipped, mounted, filtered, gauged, packed, intermittantly wiped and braked. I mean broken. Now, about the car...

ok, so the driver of the Lexus E350 wasn't able to put the car in neutral, braking, turning the engine off?

It probably has an auto box with some gizmo so you cant downshift if your accelerating hard..

Most likely also has a key-less start button that disallows engine switch off past a certain speed.

Yeah probably, glad I don't have any of these gadgets on my cars.

But then you still got brakes...

17 crashes and 5 deaths Thats going to cost them.

Not keen on the idea of keyless ignition, nice to know you can swtich the bu99er off if you need to.

Anyone remember when Audis got bad press in the States from the pedals being too close together in the 4k? There were a few accidents, somebody ran flat out into a petrol pump when the car accelerated instead of braking IIRC..

shall we call it "unintented accelleration"? Toyota is following audi now.

I chose not to choose life: I chose something else. And the reasons? There are no reasons. Who need reasons when you've got quattro?
