Anyone remember LCB for the A-series, or the 4-2-1 for the X-flow? Christ im old! My next purchase will be the "Evo" cast manifold which is more than good enough for my needs! But i have a question...why the lack of "tubes". They used 2 be the best option. Why are they so ££ for the S2? Its only a bit of bent pipe! Please no rants about development costs, steel grades, etc. Keep it simple!
Exhaust Q for oldies!

Cast manifolds are easier on engine bay packaging with a turbo and casting is a cheaper manufacturing method than jig cutting and jig welding by hand. Tubular manifolds are still used to good effect on many high performance normally aspirated cars.Cheers'en, AndyC

D'ya know, I watch that B*W (I can't bring myself to type the whole name) advert on the TV, and it makes me hit the rev limiter every time when they show the enthusiasts bit with lines of their older products being displayed proudly ....and knowing that they actually support their heritage, unlike a certain marque we hold dear to our hearts.Martin Cutting

Lets be honest here 5 Cly engines are now becoming common as muck.....
Ford ST's, RS's, T5? V sommit or other (pile of Cr4p's) Etc Etc
But it's only taken Ford & Volvo ni on 19 years to get thier "Run of the mill" cars to where Audi were back then..... In 1990..
I've had an 5 Cyl ST and its awful compared to my little lady.....
I agree that Audi seem to have forgotten thier history... but thats what happens when companies are run by Suits.... Ie Accountants....:corey:

Don't you mean Part of another group....
VAG = Volkswagen-Audi-Group....
Not just a subsiduary of the group...
But I Agree its about "mass production" & using as many common parts as they possable can to keep down cost...
I.e. accountants or bean counters running the company....

i beg to differ.
fitting the tubular from wagner is far easier. its easy to get to every bolt. granted you need a differnet exhaust but who uses the factory exhaust with something like this.
i reckon i could have the downpipe, turbo and manifold off in an hour no problem.
cast is cheaper to produce but only once the tooling has been fully made and tested. manufactureres only really use cast if they expect to sell quite a few.
tubes allow for a more equal length of runner for less gas collision. they also flow more.
tubulars downside is in its minherent flexability and its material. it needs bracing or the turbo will come off....eventually
the evo is a good manifolds to pay money and take choice. you wont see many cast at gatebil thoughComment

I think issue with a tubular is that it takes too much space, even if turned a harmonic after normal N/A tubeulars. Makeing it hard to keep origional locations of the turbo ete meaning more that one part has to be replaced increasing cost, also the longer and thinner walled pipes of a tubular would allow more heat to radiate into the engine bay increseing oil and water temps and considering the location the water raditor in a s2 how determental that would be. This with the needed tobrace a tubular to stopping cracking prematurely makes the well designed cast supiour to most.
That said if I do anything major to my s6 I will use a tubular given the extra space and that I like fabracation so any issues are easily solved. As I see worth if considering the better colector design and the possible increase in of off boost driving.Comment

thats the point it doesn't take up any more space than is already there. it creates easier fitting potential.I think issue with a tubular is that it takes too much space, even if turned a harmonic after normal N/A tubeulars. more heat is radiated from a poor flowing manifold hence higher egt in the first place.
also my rad is across the other side of the engine bay to the turbo. are you talking S2.Comment
