How about designing a blanking plate for easy remove tow bars so once it's off u can plate it up to give the bumper the impression of no tow bar at all and then hey presto pop it off n put ur ballback on? For the more grown up s2 driver with a hook on? Don't think I could have got Away with putting that as a strap on??? ;p

I've got both a steel and plastic block water ouput, is that what you are referring to?

I've also been thinking about some custom pipework for catch tanks to retain the stock breather and N80.

I've got a custom made catch tank that would suit RHD ABY/AAN and mounts to the strut brace and with some measurements I could sort a LHD one. Would come with all connections, adaptors etc. to enable a generic kit to satisy most stock'ish' cars.

You mean a moulded plastic part to replicate the bumper? Injection moulding is a mass marked approach really but if you take a pic of the situation I'll have a think

The 3b water connection is already metal, does that not fit the ABY too?

Catch tank kit will take some thinking as more parts = more money and you might not need them. I will identify all the parts I can think of (things like N80 delete plug, inlet plug etc.) and work out costs.

Just measuring up the block water inlets that I have, will design an ally one to be turned.

lind4l, you mean an ally version of these:-

I think you are on to something here Andy, I have thought about doing the same when I come up against something that is NLA or a poor design in the first place.

Off the top of my head.

A mod to make the Master cylinder linkage stronger / repairable (Not sure how feasible this is having not looked at it close up)

                      Good luck.

                      Cheers,

Yeah, that's quite a good one, the issue there is that the centre damper (wtf is that for ) dies, something to either strengthen it would do the job, otherwise it's re-work time on secondhand clutch cylinders and for the difficulty of replacement I'd prefer not to fit secondhand parts.

Hard to say how much general appeal there would be from this, so maybe wiser to invest time on tweaking / customising anything off the shelf to make it a ready fit for S2 applications - things like catch tank for example - there must be several decent ones available, but making it perfect for S2 is where it gets trickier for most folk.

The uprated snub bracket has some appeal alright - again as long as a few choices of rubber to go with it are available

An adjustable brake balance valve (to replace where factory one lives)

A fuel pressure guage - with bits to fit S2/RS2 fuel rail and all the right sizes unions etc

One general thing I wish was available for decent money was a DIY wheel alignment gizmo - something that works repeatable and that is accurate enough to get good results. There are either dirt cheap / useless things at one end of the scale and uber sexy / accurate things that are way too expensive for home use. Anyone who can design something 'accurate enough' that is easy to use at the right price will do well. You hear/read bout guys waxing on about these home made things from metal bars, bits of wood and fishing line - I'm pretty handy but I cant be arsed to fiddle around making one of those - and have no point of reference to how accurate it is... Somebody should be able to create such a thing from non exotic material. That must have wide appeal in the general car enthusiast / trackday market place - or am I going to be embarrassed by someone posting me a link to something for £99 that I can buy right now ?

Some pretty big things there Paul and as you say, some things that can be modified. Not too clued up on alignment techniques but that can be rectified if I decide to go that way..

Catch tank wise, when I was looking, it was the same cost to get an off the shelf one as it was to get a custom made one with the right sized connections in the right place so it was a no-brainer there. There are lots of little nicknaks that are required for each install depending on whether the inlet is still connected, desires for fuel tank breather options etc. I'll think about those.

I'm going to do some market research this week on wheel alignment equipment - my intuition is that there is very little out there for home / track enthusiast.

We all know how tricky it is to free up the track rod adjusters on the S2 and how many times on and off the 'expert' ramps we have to visit - most of them manned by clueless ****s who just want to take the money and get us out of there ASAP - but to get it right requires many visits and tweaks... just so much less stressful to do that on your driveway if you had the equipment.

The handling on my V6 is shyte after the wishbone swap and the last place I want to go is the local quick fit gaff - and I can't afford the time at the stealers either (plus thats forty miles outta my way). I just need some way to make small adjustments that I can see and feel the outcome and improve things.

OK, well I'll start off small for now, little ally bits and a few things, can work my way towards my own car parts empire then

Here's some pics of my catch tank install, it's pretty close, just needs some mods to make it a bit more versatile. I would also look at ways to keep the N80 plumbed in as the smell of petrol from the fuel tank breather is more than a tad worrying...

You can see how the custom pipework makes the job nice and neat, the top hose currently runs down an old AC pipe and joins the head tube to the inlet.
