    Just dinged the car

We had a load of fresh snow earlier and I have to go out.. Just up the end of the road there's a triangular island where our road joins the roundabout, someone has taken out the illuminated keep left bollard and I can't see where the road goes, I see a few tracks where people have gone off onto the grass verge and think wtf.. I've been driving in the snow for the last 3 days and been ok but this stuff is different, its slush with ice underneath.. I'm not going slow enough.. a bit too late I realise I'm aiming for where the bollard should be, try to turn, no go, try the brakes, just kept going, again turn and so gently brake, manage to get a little to the left and go up onto the island. Unfortunately there's a big lump of concrete which was the base for the stupid bollard, the previous visitor to the island has pulled it up at an angle, I get out to look, the bumper and intercooler are hooked over it, bumper is hanging off one side. Now I'm in the middle of a dark foggy road, half the car is in the oncoming lane and any moment someone is going to turn off the dual carriageway onto this ice rink, lose control and run into the side of the car, so I decide I'm going to have to try and reverse off.. Theres a big crunching noise and the engine dies, I get out again and see that the bumper and intercooler have both been pulled away from the car, someone stops to help and we get the car disentagled from the bollard base, the bollard electrical wiring and conduit, after a few attempts I get the intercooler pipe jammed on and start the car and reverse back to the bus stop, at least now no one is likely to drive into me, I find a spare jubilee clip in the boot and get the IC connected and tie the bumper on with some wire and drive the half mile back to the house. I've had a look and taken the bumper off completely but I'm going to need a replacement along with a RH fog light, the oil cooler was bent round backwards on its bracket but seems not to be holed, the IC is a bit bashed but not holed (thank God I haven't yet fitted the new Wagner IC! ) Its a pain cos I'm supposed to be driving to Cornawall on Wednesday Hopefully I can get it bodged up in time
    Really ****** off with myself

Cheers Scotty, positive it must be

Team bodge will need to be up early in the morning, I'm going to try and make one bumper out of several losely related parts.. Its a drag cos this bumper had never had washer nozzles, I like the nozzle-less look..

Bad luck on the incident, I have to say I'm sacred of using mine incase anything similar happens.

If I had time I'd have the bumper off for you and sent tomorrow but I'm going to Wales at 5 am !

thats a nightmare Newsh, sorry to hear you pranged it. Yep the snow today is much wetter so theres much less grip than the nice dry stuff we had earlier. Good luck getting it to working order again. Still snowing here in north Hampshire and the roads are carnage...

On the flip side, watched a guy tonight in his Toureg being a ******** at the roundabout, thought it'd be funny to give it some beans mid way round the roundabout and ended up going into a slide and smacking passenger side front and rear alloys into the high kerb - sorry but for that i had to laugh. just cos its a 4x4 it doesnt make it immune to laws of gavity and the 20inch summer rubber really wont bite on a 2tonne lump like that either.

I know the feeling.... be happy it's not a body panel that's where it really hurts at the least you can replace those bits. Still sucks though... pull out your sled

Be luck John, doesn't sound like there's much you could have done, summer tyres and 2 tons doesn't slow down too easily on snow IME exactly the reason I've not taken mine out and used the BM instead Hope you get it sorted.

These cold spells make winter tyres more appealing for sure, a small outlay to help with the chaos that envelopes the country when all goes white...

                            Bloody phones

The concentration required to keep my BM pointing in the right direction was immense, ended up on one road at tickover in 3rd and any light acceleration resulted in sudeways, not forward motion. Fine on a wide road, not so fine on a road with cars parked either side and single track

At another point I had it on the steering rack stops one way then the other... held it and it must have been spectacular to watch! Thankfully nothing to hit at that point so it was a rather than I let the previous owner have a go too, he spun it and drove off in the other direction as if he'd meant to do it!

All good fun, called it a day early so we ended on a high rather than on a transporter.
