Yep replacing both rear tie rods.
Doesn't seem to be much room to get a decent swing with hammer, drive shaft in the way
I'll get there in the end.
        Any more ideas out there??

no, its pretty hard, in worst case you will have to cut off the bushing/bolt from the tierod..

Cheers Rob, I'll do that, don't want to break anything with big hammer

Well one tie rod end now off.
Thanks for the proper tool Rob,went with a nice bang when it let go, so much easier with the right kit.
Goner get me self one of those
Had my fingers crossed the bolt with the fancy washer at tuther end of rod would come away nice and easy It wasn't to be.
At first it was coming out using socket, but then it all started to tighten up, real tight.
So that put a stop to that.
Plan B, hack saw, not enough room for grinder. Cut bolt, and that gave me enough movement to wiggle tie rod out of housing

Very nice to put brand spanker tie rod on with some copper grease.
Just the other side to do now

Right I've had another spare couple of hours to get brake cables connected up.
When I purchased new cables I noticed that the metal sleeve that slide into the rear of hub was a different set up. Old one was a lot longer sleeve, new one is short stubby affair
I had fingers crossed this wasn't going to be a problem.
It is After connecting all of cable, the spring on the cable at hub end needs to be compressed, and then the shorter stubby sleeve should slide into it's housing.
Problem is spring is fully compressed but sleeve is no where near to housing.
If my new cables had original lenght of sleeve, then I don't beleive I would be having this problem.
The way I see it is the spring that goes into the hub needs to be shortened which would allow the new sleeve to enter the housing
I was concerned that I'd got the wrong cable, but spoke to Audi to double check using my vin number, and part number is correct, it also matches number on cable.

Looks like Audi have changed the design.
I have a picture that I put on Saltinots project.
It was from Tots place, he'd put a load of new gear on rear of RS2, including brake cable, and guess what, it's the new style sleeve.
Wonder how Mr Tot got it to fit

Any help advice, throw it my way boy's.

Forget my last post, I'm still a novice
I forgot to order cable guides that jamo pointed out to me in post 5, on vagcat there is a part number but no diagram of sleeves. now I've got them it all makes sense.
For anyone who hasn't replaced handbrake cables, if like me you'll find that the old guides can't be saved. What I hadn't realised was because the guides had corroded in the hub and at the tuther end it all looked like it was joined to main cable, but the guide is a seperate part that taps into rear of hub, then you can feed cable into it and attach to retainer. Hope all that makes sense, unlike my last post

                          New cables are done.
Another tick on the to do list.

                            Bloody tie rods

Just done this exact job on mine, NS siezed solid managed to get OS free after a lot of hassle lots of plus gas and some heat, ended up grinding head of bolt off and managed to turn sideways and get it out after about 2 hours,

Wonder how much the stealers would have charged for doing that job !

Yep that's how I did mine head bolt off, and turn tie rod in housing, and pull out.

As for the stealers, I just make a nice V sign in the direction of my nearest, and feel it wasn't in vain loosing more skin of my nuckles.

Right after completing first lot of rear end jobs, I'm onto something else I've never done (on any car) and that is to remove spring and damper at rear n/s and o/s, and all the housing tucked up in arch. Point is I want to replace all bushes.
Not sure but I beleive these need pressing out?? I don't have any press tools.
Would socket and vice work for these bushes??
Could anbody provide a few pointers for me on this one to help me on my way??

                                Cheers.
