I've got the Saloon Projekt horn...

As per title, been a quiet night and the old grey matter has been getting over excited about sorting a 90q toy and returning the Alpinweiss to its former glory I think a B3 suits my enjoyment of lairy handling and 5 pots best, although a B2 would be nice they're old and bodywork isn't my thing the B4 is heading towards the sober B5 but S2 looks are nicer...

20V 90q to start, sort the chassis, strip it, sort some proper sized wheels and arches and make it sound like thunder. Then cage, buckets and 400 reliable ABY ponies and a 6 speed...

    Damn you Kit!

Gary's old 90 is going this way, engine sorted already just got to swap.

Leave it with the 20v box/diff for quicker acceleration.

Tbh you could probably get the car done for 1.5k all in if you know where to look and don't mind a bit of elbow grease.

quattroamm's car all over again, shame thats now dead

I never used to mind elbow grease but things are quite difficult nowadays...

I have a horrible habit of doing things to a silly standard, £1500 would be great but I'd end up spending that on the chassis...

How easy is B4ing the front of a B3 and sorting the rear arches to take S2 225/45R17 rubber?

        All good fun for sure

Think I need to get my head round all the options, differences and costs as I could justify swapping the BM for a decent 90q... if such a thing can be purchased. There's a nice red'un on PH that's got a hand in all this.

why not start with a B4 chassis for the proper rear suspension set-up?

I don't think I want it, I like old, difficult cars and I hope the B3 will be like the coupe so a bit lairy with a big RARB and take a bit of work to get the most from it, more involving I'd hope.

After reading this thread, I've been getting similar urges!

After all, I've got to do something with my 3B engine when it eventually comes out:mischeif:

Are there any differences (other than the engine) between 10v and 20v? Aim here is to get the best shell if I do it so much though I'd like a 20v, I'd prefer not to limit myself to the rarer option...

My 20v had the forged/cast front wishbones, I don't believe the 10v had. However if you are fitting the b4 front end will you be swapping wishbones anyway?

Good luck, will be great fun!

                          Bum, that 20v is a 2wd.

If a 20vt went in the front then it would get full S2 suspension to handle the increased mass.

I think to begin with I'd want to get the chassis sorted and leave the stock engine in there for cheapness. Can then get a 20vt and swap it. All good fun planning these things in your head

I remember the ty85 ratios were very short, 80 @ 4k prm in 5th gear, couldn't hit 60 in 2nd, are the ratios published anywhere?

Also, the B3 has mcuh smaller wheels than an S2 so is the speedo a different calibration or is it all just left to have a small error?

Funnily enough my 'initial' budget is £1500. I already have my power plant, a 2.2 10VT with impeccable history, which will be effectively free once I finish breaking the 100 Avant it came out of.

There's going to be a bonus £100 worth of scrap left over as well which will be added to the pot and go some way to paying for all the parts I need to rebuild the head as I'm doing all the work myself, bar a light skim and fitting new exhaust valves/guides. I've also been chatting to Peter in Hungry about his 10V EFi solution. This set up opens up the 10VT motor to realising it's full potential and if I do a lot of the fiddly work myself like making the loom and sourcing parts ect is actually surprisingly affordable. My plan is to get the engine installed and running perfectly then convert to it EFi once I'm 100% happy with everything else like the suspension and obviously brakes!!!.

I want to try and a find a T85Q saloon as their a bit lighter and very understated, I don't mind a bit of body work either, I can MIG weld and a mate in the trade has long term loaned me his old set up, just need to buy some gas and wire. 'Sports shed' is my ethos for this venture. I know the T85 is going to end up costing me more than a B3, but sod it I reckon it'll be worth that bit extra just to watch the bemused look on peoples faces. However if I come across a suitable B3Q Saloon cheap enough then I could be swayed.

All this is to distract me from going daft with the S2, I had been very seriously considering going down the VEMS route with it, however I decided if I did there'd be no stopping me and it would inevitably soon lead to a bigger turbo, bottom end rebuild ect. As the motor's only done 15K since having a rebuild and runs perfectly I'm somewhat loathed to take it apart again just to fit new rods, which aren't that cheap in themselves. So the S2, (which incidentally is nearly finished all bar making my mind up about the exhaust), will be finished to RS2 spec, live mapped and LEFT ALONE!!!! Though I do plan to get it properly resprayed in a couple of years.
