im using a company called progress who are sorting it out for me, sound very much like easi drive. i had a courtesy car that evening, ( top of the range 59 plate skoda superb, auto, diesel) as people have said: it is only a car, a cool car and my pride and joy, but none the less it is still just an object. now need to work out what to get next as i suspect the payout wont be enough to afford me a another one, as i managed to pick it up for £2500 a year ago, and ive not seen any for less than 3000-3500.

Glad to hear you are OK ( and the others ). FWIW, I was hit from behind by a guy looking for someting in his glovebox, I was stationary in a queue of cars and hit at about 30mph. My 90 Q was badly damaged ( boot floor crumpled so badly the spare was compressed ). When I took it to my approved bodyshop they asked did I want to keep the car ( it was very clean but not mint ). I of course said yes and the repair cost appr £2,400 ( more than the car was worth ) but it was at the other drivers expense as he admitted liabilty ( he couldnt do much else ! ). You might get lucky.....Comment

why should'nt you get that sum then? the accident wasn't your fault and your car is probably beyond economical repair so therefore you should be reimbursed an amount to buy a replacement in roughly same condition and spec. I was told by on of our engineers when a nice polish chap took the side out of my golf that an insurance company will take 5-6 cars of equal spec in a 50mile radius and take an average price and offer you said amountim using a company called progress who are sorting it out for me, sound very much like easi drive. i had a courtesy car that evening, ( top of the range 59 plate skoda superb, auto, diesel) as people have said: it is only a car, a cool car and my pride and joy, but none the less it is still just an object. now need to work out what to get next as i suspect the payout wont be enough to afford me a another one, as i managed to pick it up for £2500 a year ago, and ive not seen any for less than 3000-3500.
its always good to barter for more though the worst they can say is no!

What you paid is irrelative...

I checked with the company (Easi Drive) last night. As long as the accident is not your fault, they will a) Let you have an equivalent caqr or better delivered to your door b) Collect, repair and retuen your car c) Not charge you anything and that includes you excess !!
They said if you tell them that "George the computer man" told you to ring they will look after you. Worth keeping their telephone in your car 0870 330 9770 - I dealt with a very pleasant person called Claire.Comment

Or you could be a nice chap and pm me for a claim form. If I am the refurer I can help with the dreaded valuation. Easi Drive have to use independant assessors. I had to proove how much Lees car was worth. They use the Glasses guide. Show me an S2 in there!
Refuring customers to them works both ways, they give me jobs too!

The service sounds excellent. What happens if we're miles away from you Rob, do we need to get the car to your workshop for your to assess etc? How does it work with transporting a damaged vehicle etc?

No, You can ellect any repairer to carryout the repairs! I would manage any problems as I can pull a few strings now I have a good relationship with them.
The assessors just go to your repairer and aggree price for the work. Added bonus is they pay more than your insurance company. I just got £40 per hour to fix a Sprinter! They pay within 10 days of reciept of invoice too!

These “credit hire” companies all seem great on the face of it. My A4 was nudged by a lady in her 1 series last Feb resulting in very minor damage to passenger side. The bodyshop passed my details on to Accident Exchange (who had coincidentally been recommended to me by a friend not long before) who promptly rang me that afternoon to say they would handle everything and deliver a courtesy to my work and collect my car. New A4 s-line tdi avant turns up next day, very nice too, and mine is driven off. Work doesn’t start for about 4 days and finally get my mine back after 12 days after the crease is taken out of the doors and the doors resprayed.
The at-fault drivers insurers then refuse to pay up due to the cost of the hire car. Repair bill £1100, rental car £1300 (ish). The whole thing ended up at solicitors and was finally settled out of court just before Christmas (9 months later). I dread to think what it all ended up costing but one thing’s for sure, it’s you and I that end up footing the bill with increased premiums.
I don’t think these companies are doing us any favours in the long run!!Comment

I know what you mean, but do you drive a Corsa day to day? my guess is no. So why should you have to!Rob..
