    its a total loss

As expected my car is a total loss. uneconomical to repair.
ive spoken to my independant evaluator, and i now have to try and prove the price of my vehicle. the book reckons £1750!!

    firstly parden my language but.......bolux!!

secondly. has anyone got a recent previous claim i can use as a case, because it would strengthen my arguement. my car spec was...

1991 3b audi s2 coupe quattro silver in mint condition.

ive found a red one advertised for £4800, which i think is over priced. there are others knocking about but all the ones under about 3500 'need work' or have minimal MOT which basically means it is cost cost money in the next few months.

does anyone know how, or be able to help me prove the price of my car.

i wish i could just tell the insurance company to get me one and drop it off! it would be a lot easier and probably fairer!

    Cheers
    Jay

Have you asked if they want to take up the challenge of finding a like for like replacement for £1750?

I'd like to see the book and ask them which model of Audi 80 they're referring to...

It's the glass guide, POS book under values all cars, that's why insurance companies use them.

Insurance is one big con IMO

Ben (roadkill) has only just gone through this with his 3b, they started with a silly as low offer as they didn't have the s2 listed in their guide. He fought it and found examples of other realistically priced 3b's

Never take the first offer, or the 2nd for matter.

A mate of mine was hit by a drink driver, his E30 M3 Cecotto was a total loss and they offered him 2k ! Being that he paid 8k and there worth upto 15k he told them where to go.

He ended up with 7k and kept the car which he then broke BUT it did take time.

                  Dead right !

This only happens with cars. Anything else you can have insurance set at at a level that you find acceptable in a total loss situation, this is the case with antiques.
It's impossible to own a rare car and get back what you invested in it if the unthinkable happens.
Where cars are concerned insurance companies don't play the game. Insurance is a gamble usually, you take an item assess the risks and allocate a premium accordingly.
With cars it's different they always stake the odds in their favour, it's almost criminal how they behave.

                  cheers

My situation was similar except I had agreed value of £6k so there was no messing. As others have said hold your ground, try and keep hold of the car and show every receipt and bill that shows how much you've spent. It's a mess of a system, slow, uneconomic and borderline with respect to the law and decency but it's what we got so play it. If you went through a broker then they should help you, otherwise set out your case and stick to it till they say no more no more...

Try and get as many examples as poss from autotrader, ebay, Pistonheads etc.... also say you were in the process of selling and agreed a figure with the buyer. may help. if the car isn't in too big a mess, try and by back the car from the insurance company (which is usually very cheap) so you can salvage/sell any parts.
