Plastic welding - anyone any experiance

Hi guys, i have bought a bumper that needs some repair work doing and i think i would like to do it myself. It has a few cracks that need welding up.

Has anyone done this before on a DIY scale, what equipment would i need and can anyone provide any tips please.

I have read about the hot gas method a bit, could a use a standard type heat gun for this with a reducer nozle to bring the size of the airflow down?

Also does anyone know what type of filler rod i need to be buying for a coupe V6/ S2 front bumper?

    Many thanks

    Jim

Kinda ghetto but I have used a chefs blowtorch and rods made from strips of the plastic to be welded (ie cut up an old bumper to make rods).

You can buy proper kits but they are pricey, I seem to remember somebody on here may be involved with the manufacture of plastic welding rods from a previous bumper repair post.

we use a company called innotek at work for doing plastic repair work. I wouldnt bother doing it the old way of heating it up and adding melted plastic as the plastic goes all brittle and cracks again easily. That innotek gear is really nice stuff to work with and ive repaired bumpers that were fairly goosed with it and ive not had any come back with cracking etc and one of them was a vxr zafira thing on its harse

        Thanks

yer exactly that jim! i was trying to think of that name araldite!! and yer you do it cold, and for large cracks you will open them out with a die grinder etc and use a roll of sticky netted tape for strength and work round and over it. Its like when they put steel grids in concrete

Thanks, i think my dad might have some of this at the garage. Does it actually fuse the crack together? And if its only a small crack that fits together well does it need vee-ing out?
