Strong generalisation there, Audiman, Sal_S2 and S2 Ant pick up stonking RS4's for that price or less.
I know why RS2 prices are coming down!

RS4 prices will not affect RS2 prices, but B7 RS4 prices will affect B5 RS4 prices.
I would never even consider a B7 RS4, though.
I can't believe the current low prices in England. Around here, a decent B5 RS4 is close to £60,000:
The B7's are still a lot more, this 07 model is £150,000:
You can get a decent RS2 for under £20K, mint low mile stockish ones will be around £30K1995 RS2 on Alcohol (6.8sec 100-200km/h)

Its this reason why i think in time the B5 will sell for more than a B7. I to would never buy a B7.
The gap is getting closer already but to me its about the car not the value, when i bought the second RS4 i was going to spend considerably more and get a 355 Ferrari. Drove a few, not for me i'm afraid, drove a couple of B7's quick but boring with no head room for respectable mods.
The B5 ticked the box's for me discrete, quickish out of the box, a completely different car with even just a stage 1 map.
If it was about money and value i would invest it elsewhere.Last edited by DJones; 28 February 2010, 11:30.Comment

[QUOTE=DJones;473716]Yep, I see folks ditch their B7' in favour of B5's.
They are getting tired of being smoked by people in warmed over B5 S4's probably.
The 4.2 in the B7 was a mistake, so extremely weird that they put the same engine in the new RS5.1995 RS2 on Alcohol (6.8sec 100-200km/h)

[QUOTE=EspenW;473720]Just found this a before and after graph of the B5, standard v's generic map (not even custom) everything else is standard, the potential of the B5 is unbelievable.
Me being a petrol head, this is what I'm after...Attached FilesComment

Lol, My RS4 feels very slow in comparison to my ur!!!! both i5 & the V6 are very good engines...
The seat of the pants feel can clearly be seen in this graph, the G force in the ur is much stronger indicating how aggressive it is to drive.Attached FilesComment

I've been thinking about an Avant for work, the shortlist it comes down to is B4 RS4 and a B5 S4 (both in Red), trouble is, the 4.2 B5 doesnt really excite me AND will continue to drop in money.
a £6K E39 M5 seems cheap but it could be a very expensive purchase . I sold mine several years ago but miss that engine dearly.

Darren those graphs speak volumes!! It takes a lot to overcome the extra weight of the RS4 doesn't it?
I am on my second B5 S4 (A black 2002 Avant this time) and love it. However, it is definitely more expensive to maintain than the S2. I know a B5 RS4 will be similar if not more and the turbos are the main (consumable) difference in price.
The V6 Bi-Turbo has so may sensors and was the most complex production engine I believe in 1999. (First to have VVT on a turbo!)
I'd love an RS4 but with only 30 black and a second tranche of 20 grey delivered to Oz, they have maintained their avlue well above taht of the S4. As for the RS2, there is a black one for sale in NZ that is RHD with only 86000km on it! As a case in point the seller is asking $55000AUD which is similar to what the rare Aus delivered B5 RS4's are going for.
Personally I'd keep my Stage 1 B5 S4 avant and try and get the RS2.
Cheers
Karl
