    UrQ convert RHD to LHD

    Hi,

I am thinking about getting an UrQ from the UK and convert it to a LHD. The LHD UrQs from EU mainland are simply too costly at this moment and will probably rise in price every day onwards.

What would be needed to make the RHD to LHD swap? Anyone BTDT?

    - Steering rack
    - Dash
    - engine bay components swap?

Please complete the list above if you know anything about this convert?

    Cheers!

    Steering rack and pedal box
Behind dash you need to do pedalbox mountings and the steering column brace piece.
Under bonnet you need to transfer the inner wing brace for rack end from Right side to left side and cut the 58mm hole for rack end.

Brake master cylinder linkage needs changing too as the RHD UR transfer the brake pivot to the passenger side via a transfer linkage box.

Its not for the faint of heart and its most notably an engine out job to convert it all properly.

Why not import an ur-q from the US or Canada. You can get good clean cars for $7-8000 US. I know the exchange
rate is bad for Europeans at the moment but 12 months ago it was bad for North Americans. The good think about
US cars is they are typically fully loaded with AC, leather etc and making them go fast is easy for Europeans It
is also a lot less expensive to ship from NA to Europe than the other way. Last year I sold an ur-q to a guy in
Austria and a Coupe GT to a guy in Germany.

interesting idea. thanks. The only thing I do not like about the US UrQs are the silly bumpers. Did those also come with the Canadian UrQ versions?

Any good US/Canada car sales websites where I can find good examples of UrQs?

          big thanks

Beware of the tax you have to pay for a car out of the European Union, that was what made me decide not to get a 4KQ from Canada...

In the best case I would have to pay €1500,- for tax only, shipping €1000,- and you would need a set of European headlamps for the MOT.

So electrically seen no mods are required? I can't imagine the speedo and other dash electronics have long enough looms to support a RHD to LHD swap?

What about ECU and fuse box?

Fusebox is on the Left side... you may have clearance issues with the Aux relay panel.... some areas of loom may need extending but i've only assessed (and begun tackling) the mechanical/body side of things.... Loom etc is custom in mine...

I will be doing this soon, engine is out already and 20v is going in.
If you buy early wr you don’t have to do wipers.
You also need this still available from Audi 857419802A and 8571419801D, longer power steering hose, full dash, inner handles, carpet, rear reflector (fog lamp on wrong side).
                    Cheers

Why don't you just look for a LHD car in the UK as there are still a few around and prices should be cheaper than mainland Europe too. Oh and it will be much easier than converting one from RHD to LHD.

                          Hi Andy
Is not so easy to find good Lhd ur in uk, I have been trying to buy one for last three years, tried to bid on three so far on bay, they go for big money, around 6k+.

There was one for sale on this forum for 10k.

If you have all parts the conversion should not take more then few days.

                          Cheers

I drove a 1981 LHD Ur in the UK for a few years back in the 80s it was bloody brilliant and I would do it again, just need to look up the inside before overtaking takes a couple of days to stop trying to change gear with the door handle and away you go Dont be a wuss just drive it RHD in LHD land
