Insane Idea - would this work?

Im thinking about coming back with a bang...

was thinking - rent barn .. get old s2 .... and rebuild engine to 400+ horsepower with smoothest delivery I can get..

strip it down , get roll cage in there and radiator in boot .. - wide arches, comotive wheels.

carbon fibre / light doors... replace glass with perspex...

racing seats ..... air vents to rad in back ...

    2 things baffle me ----

A -- would this be road legal? and if not how would i make it road legal?

B -- also insurance? how far will an insurance company go? ... and would i get insured by anybody?

    ideas thoughts?

Why would you want to drive such a car on the road?

Yes it's road legal, many people have street cars like this in the aircooled vw world and as far as insurance goes choose a specialist company and declare the mods and do it as limited mileage and it will be cheaper but still expensive! O and fit an alarm helps usually

A-Should be able to make it road legal.

B-phone up and ask You can insure anything with £££.

I would not want a full cage in a street car, I would only go as far as a rear cage, once it has a full cage its helmet time.

Sounds like a track car though rather than a street car

So your trying to build a track/race car prepared for the road? Or a track day toy you dont have a trailer for?

Aren't they called rally cars - heheh...

Methinks insurance will be brutal on such a thing. I toy with this same idea all the time - torture myself more like. Deep pockets and/or trailer required to take it places where you can stretch its legs properly.

Not necessarily, insurance is more about the risk the driver presents more so than the vehicle. My company insure some huge HP stripped out cars, eg we insure several road legal time attack cars.

If you get a coupe Chris then you'll be stripping it to dry out the interior anyway Now that's summer's here, I need to solve my leaks!

Would the hassles and logistics of moving the rad to the boot really be worth it?
Plenty of cars running 400+ with it in the front still

TBH, with no weight in there, even a homefried S2 is seriously fast, a top spec RS2 is more than enough if you're stripping 100kg from it
