    engine builder/tuners in ireland

i will be the proud owner of an s4 aan engine in a couple of weeks, but dont want to fit it until it has had a bit of a tidy up.
just wondering if any of the irish lads (and ladies) have any direct dealings themselves with someone in ireland to freshen up a 20vt.
the nearest to me is a company in lanesboro (think there called donnelans) who are supposed to be good, but they will not do any modifications/tuning i.e bigger valves, pistons etc.
i basically want it built strong enough to safely take 350-400bhp without any problems in the future.
any tips, names of companys to use would be super.

As long as you have a metal head gasket you are all set for 400bhp with ease. Stock engine is very reliable and eats up big power upgrades with ease as long as bearings haven't been abused with kak old oil.

For specialiast 5cyl balancing work there is nowhere that I know of I'm Ireland but if you fancy getting the head potted locally then there is a golf specialist in Westmeath who gets good reviews. 20vt head is pretty much same as 16v golf with am extra cylinder. Headwork is NOT required to get 400bhp thpugh... Bolting on a bigger turbo with the right injectors and ecu software will get you 400bhp without any internal engine tweaks.

Give me a shout on pm if you want more advise, but if you search here you will see that many have taken a fairl bolt-on approach to these kind of powe levels.

cheers guys. ye are really helpfull.
I think ill probably end up going with the guys in lanesboro with a standard rebuild as they have a flawless reputation, and maybe get a set of stronger rods with arp bolts just to be sure

Donlons do have a great reputation.

There is a guy a bit further west who has just rebuilt a 2.8V6 for a friend's CQ, he'd do what you want and do it right but probably never had an I5T on the bench before. You'd have to be prepared to leave the engine with him a while. Let me know it you want to make contact I'll dig out a number.

haha, it's a small world, granted there are not too many 2.8 CQ's around, let alone green ones. We're talking about the same man alright. I'll be sending him mine shortly, although he doesn't know about it yet.

mad. it really is a small island
brian is such a nice guy and a total genius.
fair play to him, hes a great man to sort out all the bits that had to be done to my c20xe'd manta.
s2 ireland, do you know a guy called eamon cunniffe (think thats his name)? met him on valentines day in castlerea at a vintage run. think hes got a 2.8 that brian worked on and is building a urq that he bought in boxes from uk.

@turbodriver63, Eamonn's one of my best mates. I collected the urq in England with him shell on a trailer and everything else inside a merc vito. It is beginning to look fantastic. 100% original urq built from the floor upwards. I was down that way at the weekend. Engine going in within 2 weeks. He's not a member on here yet.
I've never met Brian but he's well respected in the Cunniffe household and that's good enough for me.
Whereabouts are you? What's the plan for that engine?

                        small world.
only met eamon for two minutes. told me about the white quattro. he was looking at my yoke that day in castlerea (it was looking a bit rough). think he wanted the rear coloured lights off my one and i could take his tinted ones. i hear he bought a set of fuch magnesium rims from the states lately. shame as i have a set that i could have sold him cheap .

im from cloonfad, just outside ballyhaunis.
if you mean the wr from my ur, its pretty tired and would need a complete rebuild.
if you mean the 20v, i'll pick it up in may, and intented to get it rebuilt with a bigger turbo, a better intake and exhaust and injectors. already have brackets from 'bambridge' for porsche 986 calipers. then a full respray for the car. also ive bought a sport quattro front grill and spoiler for it lately. would'nt suit eamon, but everyone to there own

I actually prefer the smoked rear tail lights on a white car but original is the way to go for that project anyway. Those fuchs alloys are beautiful and really light. I'll let him know you have a set spare although the ones he bought look like they're practically new out of the box.

What are you thinking regarding the turbo on the AAN? I've been thinking about making some space for a bigger one myself.

yeah your right, smoked lights on a white quattro look slick, but its not for him.
im really not sure what to do about the turbo.its all new to me tbo. i was looking at djones project, he seems to have the perfect urq setup, if i got mine even half as well setup as his id be a happy man. then again, it all depends on funds.
to be honest i had myself promised that i would keep my head down and pay my credit union and BOI loans off this year and be nearly dept free, but cars are so addictive
we will have to organise a quattro meetup sometime, although mine prob wont be on the road for a long time!
