Dest how about a saloon / slipper saab 93 2.0 High Pressure Turbo with haldex 4wd, I think they call it XWD. Enough power and traction to embarass plenty of cars and a little bit sleeperish. If you haven't I recommend you find one and take it for a test drive. 2wd has a dangerous ammount of torque steer.

I went to try and find one in all of the usual places and none to be found within budget, sorry.
