The usual bodge there is to leave the broken end of the adjuster in place, cut open a small length of tube, and slip it on the rod that has a nail in your picture as a sleeve.

Seen that doen a few times. Done it myself at least once.

Few years ago I too my 81 Corvette down to the south of France. In the middle of nowhere, the battery light came on and I discovered one of the bolts for the aternator mount/tensioner had sheared with the stub stuck firmly in the block. Managed to regain belt tension by wedging a few pieces of broken plate glass found on the side of the road under the alternator, all held in place with tank tape. 1800 miles, and a few reinstallations later, I got it home and drilled and removed the offending bolt.

Did the mongol rally last year. Broken leaf spring on a mates Fiat Panda were temporarily replace by Tins of Tomatoes (lasted about 3 miles) Rubber door mat (35 miles) and a bit of rusty bed iron (45 miles) which just about got us to a Kazakh garage where the man was all to happy to replace them with leaf springs off a 1950s GAZ towtruck.

Ever had that oil leak that you really cant find where it comes from, or if you do then it is too expensive and not worth the effort to fix the drips?

Thats where a tampon comes in handy!

                                dodgey bodges

My friend in ontario had an s-10 with a 305. The fuel pump died so he plumbed in the windshield washer pump to the fuel line to the carb. Every few minutes he would have to hit the washer switch to refill the carb with fuel. It was great.

I had an 1980 toyota 4x4. Clutch pedal assembly snapped 900km's from home. Got the wife to hold the pieces together then clamped the vice grips on. Drove it for 2 years like that.

My old 81 volvo had the windshield wiper cables, pulleys and voodoo system fail. Had to tie binder twine to the blades, leave the windows open, steer with my knee and vigorously pull side to side when ever they were needed. Worst part was it was winter in British Columbia. I was ok when someone could co drive for me and be the wiper motor, but driving solo was ....invigorating. I won't even admit how long i left it like that.
