A little help with a wire please

Guys I'm just getting round to doing an outstanding job of the little metal bracket over the petrol filler. It has been broken and rattling for some time so I have taken out the arch lining and removed the broken bit by unbolting the panel. Proble
now is there is a little "earth"? Wire that sits under the bolt which has unpulled from the other end and for the life of me I can't see where toconnect it back to and have no idea what it does so any hints?
Its the little wire that seems to disappear into theback of the petrol filler somewhere. Where am I looking?

Crisis over. Found it thank god

Thats the lightening conductor, stops the tank from blowing from static when you fill it

In that case I really hope I connected it properly again! Lol. Will let you all know in a few days if I'm still alive after filling her up!

Yeah its a safety thing so you dont get a static spark when sticking a fuel pump nossle in. From memory it has an eyelet on the other end and bolts onto one of the upper nuts holding the metal shield in place.

take it this is an avant only thing as it has a plastic tank?
