What im wondering is how could any one expect little lag from a gt35 on a 2.2?

go for a stroker with gt30r,and you will have a usable 3000-6000rpm.a very well proven setup.

Also, there are SO MANY working, very good combinations why did you went on a different route?
Beeing different always costs more, and has its own risk.

This is not the answer for what the guy/s did for you tough....

        I didn't

Having continuously emphasised my frustration of achieving no real power before 3500RPM, Tommy Field recommended fitting one of his hybrid GT35R turbochargers. I had researched into the subject beforehand and had some knowledge about this particular unit, so I asked about surge issues that this turbo suffered . Tommy Field told me that he had developed special WRC bearings and changed a few other components for this turbo which completely transformed it and dealt with the surge issues. He assured me my engine would spool and pull very strongly from 2500RPM.

        ..................

However, I had sought some further advice from an Audi expert (more about him later), who does not live or work in this country, regarding the turbo choice. This man has built the fastest quarter mile inline 5 cylinder 20v turbo in the world so he knows his stuff. He told me no matter what was done to a GT35R, nothing could be done to solve the surge issues as he had done everything possible to try.

Based upon this information, my remit to FMS was as follows:

        • Repair split in custom inlet manifold.
        • Repair crack to exhaust manifold.
        • Provide a turbo support to prevent further cracking occurring to the exhaust manifold.
        • Rectify the apparent problem with the air injectors.
        • Fit new high performance coils.
        • Fit a hybrid GT35R turbo, but ONLY if it would definitely improve performance over the T61.

        ....................

Due to the expert information I had received I should emphasize the following about the fitment of the new turbo. On completion of all the other repairs listed above, the car was to be tested with the T61 to see how it performed. THEN, AND ONLY THEN, was Tommy Field to try his ‘special hybrid’ and was to fit it ONLY if this turbo would definitely perform better.

I think its fair to say that Pectel T6 is a very capable ecu, you only have to look at what it has been used on to see that, saying that its seriously pricey and there are equally capable ecus out there nowadays but it is still a very good unit and I do agree about it being a backwards step if you sold that. Fitting a crank trigger isn't much of a problem if thats what needs doing.

I do believe that there is certainly a lot of parts there to work with and maybe its not quite as far off as you think, wether a GT35 is the best turbo is upto you, maybe selling that and sourcing something slightly smaller isn't a bad move but then again you have it, the engine was built for it so why not use it.

The issue here is now finding someone you trust as with whats been going on you are obviously very reluctant to part with any money although if you want the car done I guess you will have no choice about that, its just down to using someone trustworthy.

I can't help you myself but I do know people who can, atleast keeping some of the costs to a minimum, the new inlet being one if your to go down that route again.

Think people are missing the point over the ECU, Jogi is limited to certain tuners in regards to the ECU, there are other ecu's that are more universally tuneable.

I have Vems as I this allowed me the flexibility to update my car at my pace.

Aftermarket ecus are not for everyone and I believe Jogi could go back to stock motronics and get better service by having Mihnea tune the car.

I also believe there is a declining interest in motronics tuning as there is little money in it compared to the newer Audis and Porsches.

                Hi Chris

I just do hope that one day you will be awarded the compensation that you truly deserve and more, surely with all the hard evidence you have this must be in your favor, hopefully soon for you there will be light at the end of the tunnel. Like myself and everyone else on the forum I hope that the 90 will be tearing up the tarmac in the very near future..

                  Wee update

I am still doing everything I can to find out where anyone stands as a consumer when they have been ripped off by an unscrupulous trader.
THe very short answer from my research to date is NOT A LOT.
In really angers me how little protection there is and/or the costs involved if you really did want to take matters further. It angers me even more that some traders seem to know this and take advantage as they know it is very unlikley they will ever be held to account.
To find out more and to keep up to date on my findings (and some interesting comments), please check my thread of the same title on the Passionford website.

                        Hi Sean,
Thanks for asking. Despite what some 'people in the know' have posted, I will repeat what I have said many times. Getting Field to court will cost money. And this is according to not one, but several 'solicitors' I have spoken to.
At this moment in time, I have got a lot on my plate at home with mum. So I am concentrating my thoughts (and money) on getting the car back on the road. Been too long without her now. It was always good to take her out for a spin and forget about everything.
Getting there slowly although the recent strike action has put me back financially.
                        Latest progress -
Car is in bodyshop without engine. It seems when everything was stripped back, there was more damaged than initially met the eye. But hoping to be reporting some real progress with pictures soon!
Engine is getting there too. Just need the money to go further now and finish the project. But hoping all will not be too long now.:mischeif:
