I still have an old dog cam but carrying the camcorder was annoying, so now I use a ContourHD1080 but modified with an external mic so I can place it anywhere.

Hey I bought a Contour 1080 HD DogCam too. I know what u mean about the Mic. I think I need to do the same!

Can u show me a pic of the mic Mod? I was just gonna wrap the mic in fluffy mic anti windnoise stuff?

The mics distort with noise and wind you need to wrap some foam round it to make a pop shield and tape it in place, works a treat

Should have asked you straight away John shouldn't I, knowing your background in sound Yeah I want the clarity of sound but without the distortion, which i guess means leaving the gain somewhere in the low-middle range and shielding it better. when i put it to min gain it was actually worse. Will try again later.

Yep its now legally decatted and all the better for it It's ummmm, rather loud, actually slightly concerned it wont pass a noise test for the track but we'll see on Saturday. It was popping and banging when hot before I took the cats out, now.... Just a single, small back box and it pops and crackles all the time.

Sounded apparently rather good in tunnels in the Alps, ask Ciaran you'll be able to hear it at the weekend anyway

yeah, Fitzy and i had some fun comparing the sound a while back....the decat miltek on his ABY avant sounds lovely, its a 'warmer' sound than mine on my 3b, its more barky - hard to describe

Not such a straight forward mod as it will invalidate the warranty, but for me it was worth the risk, and it allows me to unplug the external mic and still use the internal one, I got the socket from Maplin and the Phillips Tie Mic online.
